In reading a 1920 journal, I came across an article about the birth of the Republican Party. Within the article was the following:
"....From a careful study of Lincoln's life for the first few
months of 1856, it can be fairly deduced that it was the
Pittsburgh convention that finally convinced him that it was
the Republican party that would carry the country safely
through the storm that was impending......
