Will States Stand Up to Big Brother Taxes for Healthcare?

Will the states listen to their population or will the states realize that the new tax burdens each state (other than Nebraska) will have to impose upon their citizens will be too high for the taxpayers? Will the states stand up to Big Brother Healthcare?

Just wondering....

I thought this opinion piece very interesting. Guess I'll be contacting my local boys to see what they have in mind to do to protect our state.

Health Care Nullification: Things have just gotten underway
21. DEC, 2009

by Michael Boldin

For the past few days, I’ve received loads of emails urging me to get active regarding the healthcare vote – most of which had a subject line similar to: “Last Chance to Stop National Healthcare!”

Well, if you believe the only way to protect your rights is by begging federal politicians to do what you want, then these emails are certainly right. The vote went as expected, and so will the next.

So if you think marching on D.C. or calling your Representatives, or threating to “throw the bums out” in 2010 or 2012 or 20-whatever, is going to further the cause of the Constitution and your liberty – you might as well get your shackles on now. Your last chance has come and gone.

But, those of you who visit this site regularly already know that the Senate’s health care vote is far from the end of things – and you also know that even when it goes into effect (which I assume some version will), it’s still not the end of the road for your freedom.

The real way to resist DC is not by begging politicians and judges in Washington to allow us to exercise our rights…it’s to exercise our rights whether they want to give us “permission” to or not.

Nullification – state-level resistance to unconstitutional federal laws – is the way forward.

When a state ‘nullifies’ a federal law, it is proclaiming that the law in question is void and inoperative, or ‘non-effective,’ within the boundaries of that state; or, in other words, not a law as far as that state is concerned.

It’s peaceful, effective, and has a long history in the American tradition. It’s been invoked in support of free speech, in opposition to war and fugitive slave laws, and more. Read more on this history here.

Regarding nullification and health care, there’s already a growing movement right now. Led by Arizona, voters in a number of states may get a chance to approve State Constitutional Amendments in 2010 that would effectively ban national health care in their states. Our sources here at the Tenth Amendment Center indicate to us that we should expect to see 20-25 states consider such legislation in 2010.

20 States resisting DC can do what calling, marching, yelling, faxing, and emailing has almost never done. Stop the feds dead in their tracks.

For example, 13 states are already defying federal marijuana prohibition, and the federal government is having such a hard time dealing with it that the Obama administration recently announced that they would no longer prioritize enforcement in states that have medical marijuana laws.

Better yet, in the last 2+ years more than 20 states have been able to effectively prevent the Real ID Act of 2005 from being implemented. How did they do that? They passed laws and resolutions refusing to comply with it. And today, it’s effectively null and void without ever being repealed by Congress or challenged in court.

While the Obama administration would like to revive it under a different name, the reality is still there – with massive state-level resistance, the federal government can be pushed back inside its constitutional box. Issue by issue, law by law, the best way to change the federal government is by resisting it on a state level.

That’s nullification at work.

Over the years, wise men and women warned us that the Constitution would never enforce itself. The time is long overdue for people to start recognizing this fact, and bring that enforcement closer to home.

The bottom line? If you want to make real change; if you want to really do something for liberty and for the Constitution…focus on local activism and your state governments.

Thomas Jefferson would be proud!

The Founding Fathers Weren't What They are Cracked Up to Be

There's been a movement out and about. The movement that Hollywood is helping to promote. It's a movement that promotes it was the wealthy slaveholders who wrote the Constitution. Really?

Was history checked before this broad statement was recently uttered? I think not. History shows us that of the 55 delegates who were present at one time or another during the Constitutional Congress that only 14 of these men had slaves. What? Yep, 12 of these brilliant men owned or ran large farms which had slaves. Another one, James Madison, owned slaves. Benjamin Franklin also owned slaves but later freed them.

"Well, they were wealthy," say the members of the movement. Not so fast.

Some of the delegates were well off, even considered wealthy. But remember, these same men were willing to sacrifice both their lives and their fortunes for freedom from the tyranny of the King. These same men were Americans. These same men were patriots who believed in limited government of the people and by the people. Some of these same men were not taught in fancy European schools. They were either self taught or served apprenticeships.

As for their supposed wealth? Eight of these men suffered financial problems after the Constitution was written and ended up either in bankruptcy.

So were these founding fathers who helped to create the world's longest surviving Constitution just a bunch of elitists? I think not. They were the men who worked together during heated debate over a four month period to frame the United States Constitution. Was it perfect? Of course not. After all, we have had over 11000 proposed amendments-- and only 27 of them have passed muster with the American public.

Yep, the founding fathers were leaders of their time. They were so much more than those in the movement want us to believe. Wonder when the folks in the movement are going to give up their lives and fortunes in what they say they believe?

Just wondering......

Oh Goody, Reid's New Taxes for Our Christmas Stockings

Guess if Reid and company get their Christmas wish for the current health care plan to pass, then the rest of us get... well, we don't get coal. Santa won't be able to afford it.

Just thought you'd be interested in seeing some of the new proposed taxes from our delightful Congress.

The Senate Health Bill: Higher Taxes from Harry Reid

In order to pay for a massive health care bill (H.R. 3590), Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) creates a host of new taxes. These taxes will total $370.2 billion in the next ten years, and many of the taxes will start being collected in 2010, even as the economy continues to struggle.
The most shocking tax increase is a payroll tax increase that will permanently sever the link between the Medicare Payroll tax and its contributions to Medicare. This payroll tax increase of .5% on earnings above $200,000 for singles and $250,000 for joint couples will contribute money to the general fund for health care instead of directly for Medicare payments....http://blog.heritage.org/2009/11/19/the-senate-health-bill-higher-taxes-from-harry-reid/

Patriot Gets to Fly His Flag After All

Nice to see the homeowner's association finally agreed to let a World War II veteran fly his flag although why they opposed it in the first place.....

Legion Applauds Resolution of Flagpole Dispute

/PRNewswire/ -- Calling the decision of the Sussex Square Homeowners' Association Board in Va. to withdraw legal action against a WWII hero, "a great decision," the leader of The American Legion congratulated all parties involved.

"This is a victory for reason and I applaud the board for making the correct decision to permit this American hero to honor Old Glory in such a fitting way, every day, on his property," said National Commander Clarence E. Hill. "I also commend Legionnaires and all Americans across the country who flooded Col. Barfoot, the association and The American Legion with letters, emails, phone calls and messages of support and tribute."

Because of the controversy involving the 90-year-old Medal of Honor recipient, Rep. Howard P. "Buck" Mckeon (R-CA) and Republican Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA) introduced a resolution, H. Res. 952, allowing Congressional Medal of Honor recipients to properly display the United States flag on their property at all times.

"I thank the law firm of Marchant, Honey & Baldwin for their pro-bono efforts in resolving this issue. There is always room for discussion and solutions to be achieved within the system," Hill added. "In this case, the homeowners' association recognized the remarkable sacrifice and devotion of this true hero and acted wisely within the boundaries of their authority to do the right thing. We understand and appreciate the important role homeowners' associations play in local communities. The American Legion encourages all homeowners to continue to properly display Old Glory."

The Meaning of Veterans Day- How and Why

Through the tears we shed today for our veterans who are gone from this life, but not from our hearts, we bow our heads in remembrance of what our military do for us-- always and all ways. Thank you to my own gentle giant who rests sweetly.

Thought you'd enjoy this glimpse into the history of Veterans Day:

How and Why We Honor Veterans Day

/24-7/ -- Veteran's Day is a day designated to honor the men and women who have fought and died for our country. The freedom that you have today is hard won by these soldiers who paid the ultimate price. They are the reason that you are free today. You can live where you want, work where you want, worship however you want, travel wherever you want, wear whatever you want, say whatever you want. Freedom isn't always free. It comes at a steep price. This is a day that is intended for giving thanks and reflecting on what has been sacrificed for our freedom.

In 1918, on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day in the eleventh month, the world rejoiced and celebrated. After four years of bitter war, an armistice was signed. The "war to end all wars" was over. November 11th was set aside as Armistice Day in the United States, to remember the sacrifices that men and women made during World War I in order to ensure a lasting peace. On Armistice Day, soldiers who survived the war marched in a parade through their home towns. Politicians gave speeches and held ceremonies of thanks for the peace they had won. Congress voted Armistice Day a federal holiday in 1938, 20 years after the war had ended. In 1953 townspeople in Kansas called the holiday Veterans' Day in gratitude to the veterans of their hometown. Soon after President Nixon declared it a federal holiday.

Americans still give thanks for peace on Veterans' Day. There are ceremonies and speeches and at 11:00 in the morning most Americans observe a moment of silence, remembering those who fought for peace.

Veterans of military service have organized support groups such as the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. On Veterans' Day and Memorial Day, these groups raise funds for their charitable activities by selling paper poppies made by disable veterans. A Poppy is a red flower which is worn to show others that you are remembering those who died for their country. The Poppy was chosen because it reminds us of a place called Flanders Field in Belgium where many soldiers from the first World War died in a bloody battle in a field of poppies. The poppies grow there between the crosses that mark their graves.

How to celebrate Veterans' Day:

-Fly an American Flag from your flag pole at your home or business.
-Observe a moment of silence. Concentrate on remembering those who have died defending the cause of freedom.
-Wear a poppy.
-Go to a cemetery and pay respect to a fallen soldier.
-Locate an American Legion near you and listen to the stories of men who have served for our country.
-Write a letter to a soldier who is currently serving our country and give thanks to them.

Round About Talk on Penalty for Not Having Mandated Health Care

Health care insurance could be too costly even after reform? Why, gee whiz. Hasn't America been saying that? Penalties are appropriate says the Prez. Will that include jail time? Hard to say.

He tried to suggest the penalty for not having health insurance was similar to that of auto insurance mandates. When was the last time you knew anyone who had to go to jail, or was even threatened, for not having auto insurance? Hmmmm.

Just wondering......

Well, at least the new taxes proposed by the current health care bill won't be hidden. We'll all see them taken out of our paychecks years before the "affordable" healthcare kicks in!

What can I say? I am, and always will be, a military brat, no matter how long ago it was.......

Honored to Have the Patriots of Fort Hood Defend Our Nation,

America watched in horror as the news came out of Fort Hood yesterday.

American patriots rose quickly to the chaos surrounding them and protected the lives of others, even as they were attacked without being armed. Thank you to the brave patriots. America is honored to have you defend her.

When Obama finally spoke, his opening light hearted comments were so wrong. How could our President not have offered support to a nation who was in shock FIRST?

Just wondering... and apparently, so is this report out of Chicago....

Obama's Frightening Insensitivity Following Shooting
By Robert A George

President Obama didn't wait long after Tuesday's devastating elections to give critics another reason to question his leadership, but this time the subject matter was more grim than a pair of governorships.

After news broke out of the shooting at the Fort Hood Army post in Texas, the nation watched in horror as the toll of dead and injured climbed. The White House was notified immediately and by late afternoon, word went out that the president would speak about the incident prior to a previously scheduled appearance....http://www.nbcchicago.com/news/politics/A-Disconnected-President.html

Tons of New Taxes in House Health Bill for All Americans

Thanks to the Americans for Tax Reform for getting this information out so we the people can read it and see all the wonderful new taxes that we were promised not to get. And we thought this year was bad for the economy?

COMPREHENSIVE LIST OF ALL TAX HIKES IN HOUSE GOVERNMENT HEALTH BILL

Employer Mandate Excise Tax (Page 275): If an employer does not pay 72.5 percent of a single
employee’s health premium (65 percent of a family employee), the employer must pay an excise tax equal to 8 percent of average wages. Small employers (measured by payroll size) have smaller payroll tax rates of 0 percent (<$500,000), 2 percent ($500,000-$585,000), 4 percent ($585,000-$670,000), and 6 percent($670,000-$750,000).

Individual Mandate Surtax (Page 296): If an individual fails to obtain qualifying coverage, he must pay an income surtax equal to the lesser of 2.5 percent of modified adjusted gross income (MAGI) or the average premium. MAGI adds back in the foreign earned income exclusion and municipal bond interest.

Medicine Cabinet Tax (Page 324): Non-prescription medications would no longer be able to be
purchased from health savings accounts (HSAs), flexible spending accounts (FSAs), or health
reimbursement arrangements (HRAs). Insulin excepted.

Cap on FSAs (Page 325): FSAs would face an annual cap of $2500 (currently uncapped).
Increased Additional Tax on Non-Qualified HSA Distributions (Page 326): Non-qualified
distributions from HSAs would face an additional tax of 20 percent (current law is 10 percent). This disadvantages HSAs relative to other tax-free accounts (e.g. IRAs, 401(k)s, 529 plans, etc.)

Denial of Tax Deduction for Employer Health Plans Coordinating with Medicare Part D (Page
327): This would further erode private sector participation in delivery of Medicare services.

Surtax on Individuals and Small Businesses (Page 336): Imposes an income surtax of 5.4 percent on MAGI over $500,000 ($1 million married filing jointly). MAGI adds back in the itemized deduction for margin loan interest. This would raise the top marginal tax rate in 2011 from 39.6 percent under current law to 45 percent—a new effective top rate.

Excise Tax on Medical Devices (Page 339): Imposes a new excise tax on medical device manufacturers equal to 2.5 percent of the wholesale price. It excludes retail sales and unspecified medical devices sold to the general public.

Corporate 1099-MISC Information Reporting (Page 344): Requires that 1099-MISC forms be issued to corporations as well as persons for trade or business payments. Current law limits to just persons for small business compliance complexity reasons. Also expands reporting to exchanges of property.

Delay in Worldwide Allocation of Interest (Page 345): Delays for nine years the worldwide allocation of interest, a corporate tax relief provision from the American Jobs Creation Act

Limitation on Tax Treaty Benefits for Certain Payments (Page 346): Increases taxes on U.S.
employers with overseas operations looking to avoid double taxation of earnings.

Codification of the “Economic Substance Doctrine” (Page 349): Empowers the IRS to disallow a
perfectly legal tax deduction or other tax relief merely because the IRS deems that the motive of the taxpayer was not primarily business-related.

Application of “More Likely Than Not” Rule (Page 357): Publicly-traded partnerships and
corporations with annual gross receipts in excess of $100 million have raised standards on penalties. If there is a tax underpayment by these taxpayers, they must be able to prove that the estimated tax paidwould have more likely than not been sufficient to cover final tax liability.

Are States Starting to Stand Up for States Rights?

States rights. What a concept. If I recall, history has shown that disagreements over states rights can lead to unrest. Remember the states rights which were fought over in the War Between the States? History has shown us in Union and Confederate blood that states really don't like being told what and how to do it by those who aren't walking in their proverbial shoes.

Thought you'd be interested in this story as some states are beginning to flex their rights against mandated federal government healthcare.

Nineteen States Move to Defend Individual Health Care Choice
By Susan Jones, Senior Editor

Regardless of what the U.S. Congress decides about health care reform, a growing number of states are standing up for individuals’ freedom of choice when it comes to purchasing – or not purchasing – health insurance.

Several Kansas Republicans have introduced a state constitutional amendment that would protect the right of Kansas residents to make their own health care choices. That makes Kansas the 19th state.....http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/56144

National Emergency Defined

It's all over the news. President Barack Obama has now declared a national state of emergency due to the H1N1 flu outbreak. It is being reported it is for the benefit of hospitals as they try to treat the population who needs it. Really?

The very definition of a national emergency allows for the government to suspend citizens' normal lives, and as a result of this, can allow the government to suspend civil liberties. The government has the power under a national emergency to confiscate property, order martial law, control all communication and restrict travel, among other powers.

The question is why is the outbreak of a flu during flu season considered a national emergency. According to the CDC, around 100 children have died in America since the first onset of the H1N1 flu in the spring of 2009 with about half of them dying in September and October. The CDC continues to call the flu a pandemic. The government ordered doses of the H1N1 flu vaccine are slow in being delivered to the states.

So why the National Emergency? What is the real agenda? Just wondering.....

Czar or Master? It's Not the Name that is the Question

I enjoyed the comment by Chris regarding my last post about the power of the czars. Chris is so right when he stated the Keith Feinberg is the Special Master for Executive Compensation and it is his job to keep the bailed out bank executives in line. And Chris is so right when he says I wouldn't want bailout companies to place taxpayer money in the executive pockets. Agreed.

However, the term czar is used by mainstream media in referring to Mr. Feinberg and the presidential advisors. So, yes, they are commonly known as czars. Actually, Mr. Feingberg is quoted in an October 20, 2009 article and refers to himself as "pay czar", although he made it clear he doesn't like the term.

So, my question remains for czars in general. How many of them are supposed to be just advisors? To my knowledge, less than half of the advisors or czars were confirmed by Congress. How much power are they wielding? And why is it that these czars are now in the center of the executive branch and in the news? It seems to me that in the past, when they were talked about in the news, they were described as "presidential advisors" - no matter who the President was at the time.

Is it because I watch the news more now? Or is it because so many of them have pasts that appear, well, appear not so sunny? Just wondering...

Where Does Any Czar get the Power Over the People?

Here a czar, there a czar, and now they have the power? The power to what? The power from whom? Under what Constitutional section?

I just don't understand how a czar appointed by Obama can appear to do just what he pleases with no oversight by anyone-- including the President.

This story clearly demonstrates how bizarre our land of the free has become.....

Unbelievable! Pay Czar cut executives’ compensation without White House approval

From Fox News:
White House pay czar Kenneth Feinberg was the driving force behind the move to order steep pay cuts from bailed-out executives, and did not even seek the president’s approval before making his decision.

The Treasury Department is expected to formally announce in the next few days a plan to slash annual salaries by about 90 percent.....http://politicalintegritynow.com/2009/10/unbelievable-pay-czar-cut-executives-without-white-house-approval/

Remember the First Amendment? Looks Like it Could be Just a Memory

Saw this and wondered why there has been minimal buzz on the subject. You remember the first amendment with freedom of speech and freedom of religion?.....

Just say no to blasphemy laws

Perhaps in an effort to rehabilitate the United States’ image in the Muslim world, the Obama administration has joined a U.N. effort to restrict religious speech. This country should never sacrifice freedom of expression on the altar of religion.

By Jonathan Turley

Around the world, free speech is being sacrificed on the altar of religion. Whether defined as hate speech, discrimination or simple blasphemy, governments are declaring unlimited free speech as the enemy of freedom of religion. This growing movement has reached the United Nations, where religiously conservative countries received a boost in their campaign to pass an international blasphemy law. It came from the most unlikely of places: the United States.

While attracting surprisingly little attention, the Obama administration....http://blogs.usatoday.com/oped/2009/10/column-just-say-no-to-blasphemy-laws-.html

Congratulations America! Senate Finance Health Care Bill Raises Taxes in January

Are you ready for this little nugget of gold found in the Senate Finance Committee Health Care Bill? If I am reading this correctly with all of the "ands" and the mention of the IRS......

According to Section 6002, page 1435, Taxable income will be revised to include employer sponsored coverage. And it takes effect after December 31, 2009.

So, for all of you who really want the health care bill to pass, get ready for the feds to tax you on your current benefits. So nice of you to be so very happy and supportive of higher taxes.

And for those of us who are against mandated health care, get ready to grimace as we have to determine how to make less money go farther everyday.

Yep, it's a nugget. Just kind of depends on which side of the equation you are on as to how to define nugget-- gold or not.

Finally, a Health Care Bill We the People can Read Online

The Senate Finance Committee has released their 1500 page version of Health Care Reform. It's going to take a while to read it all. At first glance, I saw lots of subsections which I must read to see if I can determine what they really mean.

Have fun reading it. Have more fun trying to understand it all.

Maybe we'll have ample oppportunity to read it before the vote happens. Maybe our elected officials will also read the bill. Oh, sorry. I must be dreaming.....

Safety Tips Reminder

Tis the season to be safe. So take a few minutes and review these safety tips. The first set of tips came via email. Nothing new is said, but sometimes, a reminder is good to think about.

-------Safety Tips Everyone Should Know

Everyone should take 5 minutes to read this. It may save your life or love one's life

In daylight hours, refresh yourself of these things to do in an emergency situation...

This is for you and for you to share with your wife, your children, everyone you know. After reading these 10 crucial tips, forward them to someone you care about. It never hurts to be careful in this world we live in.

1. Tip from Tae Kwon Do:

The elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you are close enough to use it, do!

2. Learned this from a tourist guide:

If a robber asks for your wallet and/or purse, DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM.
Toss it away from you. Chances are that he is more interested in your wallet and/or purse than you, and he will go for the wallet/purse.
RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!

3. If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car, kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy.
The driver won't see you, but everybody else will. This has saved lives.

4. Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping, eating, working, etc., and just sit(doing their checkbook, or making a list, etc.) DON'T DO THIS!

The predator will be watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, put a gun to your head, and tell you where to go.

AS SOON AS YOU GET INTO YOUR CAR, LOCK THE DOORS AND LEAVE.

If someone is in the car with a gun to your head DO NOT DRIVE OFF, Repeat: DO NOT DRIVE OFF! Instead gun the engine and speed into anything, wrecking the car. Your Air Bag will save you. If the person is in the back seat they will get the worst of it. As soon as the car crashes bail out and run. It is better than having them find your body in a remote location.

5. A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot, or parking garage:

A.) Be aware: look around you, look into your car, at the passenger side floor, and in the back seat

B.) If you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door.

Most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women are attempting to get into their cars.

C.) Look at the car parked on the driver's side of your vehicle,
and the passenger side... If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back into the mall, or work, and get a guard/policeman to walk you back out. IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead.)

6. ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs. Stairwells are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot. (This is especially true at NIGHT!)

7. If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, ALWAYS RUN! The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times; and even then, it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ. RUN, preferably in a zig -zag pattern!

8. Most women, are sympathetic: STOP! It may get you raped, or killed.

Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good-looking, well educated man, who ALWAYS played on the sympathies of unsuspecting women. He walked with a cane, or a limp, and often asked 'for help' into his vehicle or with his vehicle, which is when he abducted his next victim.

9. Another Safety Point:
Someone just told me that her friend heard a crying baby on her porch the night before last, and she called the police because it was late and she thought it was weird. The police told her 'Whatever you do, DO NOT open the door..' The lady then said that it sounded like the baby had crawled near a window, and she was worried that it would crawl to the street and get run over. The policeman said, 'We already have a unit on the way, whatever you do, DO NOT open the door.' He told her that they think a serial killer has a baby's cry recorded and uses it to coax women out of their homes thinking that someone dropped off a baby. He said they have not verified it, but have had several calls by women saying that they hear baby's cries outside their doors when they're home alone at night.

10. Water scam!
If you wake up in the middle of the night to hear all your taps outside running or what you think is a burst pipe, DO NOT GO OUT TO INVESTIGATE! These people turn on all your outside taps full ball so that you will go out to investigate and then attack.

Stay alert, keep safe, and look out for your neighbors!

This should probably be taken seriously because the Crying Baby Theory was mentioned on America's Most Wanted when they profiled the serial killer in Louisiana.

------Don't Let Yourself Get Hooked by Phishing Sites

(NAPSI)-Many people know that phishing, or luring Internet users to illegitimate Web sites in an attempt to obtain personal information, is becoming more widespread and more sophisticated. Learning how to identify these scams and phishing Web sites may keep you from becoming a victim.

Statistics from a recent survey commissioned by VeriSign reveal that 88 percent of U.S. Web surfers are unable to identify various forms of phishing Web sites from authentic sites they emulate in a side-by-side comparison. The survey, which was also conducted in Germany, Sweden, Australia, India, Denmark and the United Kingdom, shows that U.S. Internet users were least likely to identify the telltale signs of a phishing site.

Internet users who cannot identify phishing sites may be more likely to give up personal and financial information online, making them extremely vulnerable to identity theft and fraud.

"Whether you are shopping online or using a social networking site, it is important to protect yourself on the Internet," said Tim Callan of VeriSign. "There are simple measures that will secure your financial and personal data from phishing scams and online fraud."

Consumer education is crucial in combating this nationwide issue. Luckily, there are easy-to-spot indicators that can help consumers identify phishing sites and stay safe online. Internet users should watch for the following when banking, shopping and interacting online:

https:// in the URL: The "s" in https:// means the site is encrypted, so the information you enter is secured. While some phishing sites do have a secured Web address, many do not. Therefore, site visitors should be on the lookout for missing security on sites that should have it.

Trust marks: Simple visual cues in the form of popular logos can show that a Web site is authenticated and secured, and that a company is reputable.

The Web address: Be suspicious of any site with an unknown domain that contains the name of a well-known site in the latter part of the Web address.

Green address bar: This signifies that a site has undergone extensive identity authentication so that you can be confident it is the site it claims to be.

Internet users can apply the above tips and test their knowledge by taking the "Phish or No Phish Challenge" at www.phish-no-phish.com.

Granny for Sell? I'll Take 10

Have you seen the story out this morning about the young girl who decided to sell her grandma because she was annoying? Arrgg.

If Grandma is for sell, I'll take 10 of them. What could be better than to have those loving arms surround you in times of pain or in happiness? What could be better than to have someone tell stories of their life in earlier times? What could be better than having someone spoil the children just because they can? What could be better than having that sweet smile admire your drawings even if they are on the wall? What could be better than having someone sneak you a cookie to share with her? What could be better?

Just wondering...

Rushing the Point

VWV Note: Just like in most sports, if you rush the stroke or hit, you're going to mess things up. The big question is why is the President insistent on rushing his strokes of changing domestic policy? Kind of makes one wonder what is the agenda?

Just wondering.....

Obama in a Rush on Things Domestic but Military and Defense Issues Can Wait

by Matthew Vadum

Glenn Beck took a rare foray into foreign policy and international relations on his TV show Thursday. He complained that President Obama postures, acting as if his entire domestic agenda must be enacted without a moment’s delay. In the meantime, the President takes his sweet time acting on matters of national security.

White House Tells Congress to Back Off on Czars?

VWV Note: Oh reallllllyyyy? Ummm, do you think the White House has a strong gut feeling that the czars wouldn't pass muster even with a democratic controlled Congress? With all the allegations the Czars face when their pasts are delved into, I think I would be ashamed to have them looked at as well. But then, I never would have appointed them.

Teaching Praise Song is a School Activity

VWV Note: Just in case you needed confirmation that a school did approve teaching children to sing praises....

Question is: Did the School Board Approve?

Confirmed: Kids' Praising Obama an official public school activity

An important update about the creepy video we posted yesterday. The Burlington Township School District, to which B. Bernice Youngs Elementary School belongs, posted the following Letter to Parents this morning.
Dear Burlington Township Families:

Today we became aware of a video that was placed on the internet which has been reported in the media. The video is of a class of students singing a song about President Obama. The activity took place.....http://exurbanleague.com/2009/09/24/confirmed-kids-praising-obama-an-official-public-school-activity.aspx

Who Needs Reading, Writing or Arithmatic?

Why bother with reading, writing and arithmatic in our schools when we can have this instead? Who cares that precious school time is being used by some not to teach history but to teach idol praise to a mere mortal?

Young brains are sponges. They soak up the message being presented. Shouldn't we prepare our youth for the future with skills in math and science? No wonder our education appears to be behind.

And my folks thought rock and roll was appalling!

Thought you'd be interested in seeing some of the videos of school children singing their praises. JMac Politics has been collecting them all one one place.

Tax, Mandate, Mandatory Fee- Whatever You Call It, It's a Tax

Yep, it's a tax if the government says you have to pay it or else. Yep, it's a tax if the IRS is the collection body. Yep, it's a tax if it gets paid to a government as a fee. Taxing thoughts today as I look at my property taxes, which apparently are up even though the value of real estate is down. Yep, it's a tax. Guess we have to go back to the definition of "is".

Morning Bell: It Depends On What Your Definition Of “Tax” Is

Throughout his presidential campaign, then-candidate Barack Obama promised the American people: “If you’re a family that’s making $250,000 a year or less, you will see no increase in your taxes.” As President, Barack Obama reiterated that pledge, promising the American people in his September 9th health care press conference: “The middle-class will realize greater security, not higher taxes.” But as ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos pointed out to the President this weekend, Obama will break his promise to the American people if he signs a health care bill that includes an individual or employer mandate.

In an exchange that can only be described as “Clintonesque” Stephanopoulos was forced to read the definition of “tax” straight from Merriam Webster’s Dictionary, but even then Obama refused.....http://blog.heritage.org/2009/09/22/morning-bell-it-depends-on-what-your-definition-of-tax-is/

As if Government Run Health Care Wasn't Enough- Now It's Education

Guess what guys. I just saw the following article on the proposed government takeover of the historically desirable way to take students loans. You gotta read it and let your officials know your thoughts.

Eliminating the Federal Family Education Loan Program: Hurting Students & Increasing the Size of the Government
September 10, 2009

By having the government take over all federal student loan originations, it would involve one of the largest expansions of a government program in recent memory. It would dismantle a system that has successfully served generations of Americans. Within a decade the Federal Direct Loan Program would be a trillion dollar operation, making it one of the biggest banks in the world. It would ultimately have responsibility for tens of millions of borrowers ... http://ow.ly/pteB

Will You Pay by US Dollars or Wocu?

Does this bother anyone else? This little new world currency was introduced on September 10, 2009. What will it mean for us? How soon will we be asked to pay in Wocu since the US Dollar is devalued so much due to overprinting by the current administration?

Just wondering..

New World Currency Introduction

/PRNewswire/ -- This week the world's financial markets will see the first ever execution and settlement of a trade conducted in Wocus(TM) (World Currency Unit), the newly-introduced world currency. The Wocu has been developed as a derived world currency unit to allow corporations, financial institutions, governments and even individuals to trade across national boundaries and hold foreign assets with minimal risk of losses caused by exchange rate fluctuations.

Whilst international trade is conducted in US dollars or Euros a sharp change in exchange rates causes huge differentials, vastly complicating risk management and forward planning. With the emergence of Russia, China and India into the world markets a less volatile world currency is needed. As the Wocu is a derivative of the exchange rates of the world's top 20 currencies as measured by GDP it substantially reduces the risk factors. WDX Organisation, the company behind the Wocu, has weighted its algorithm in line with these GDPs, creating a demonstrably less volatile and totally apolitical currency unit.

Howard Flight, fund manager, consultant, politician and author of 'ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT EXCHANGE RATES' was the keynote speaker at the launch. He said: "I expect this to be an important moment for the history of currency - a new currency reference is being born which should be very useful for both major buyers and sellers of world commodities." He adds: "The questions are as to who will use it? WDX commercial arrangements are lining up major banks to both trade in and settle international trade transactions on behalf of corporate clients in Wocus. Banks and InterDealer Brokers will also trade Wocu derivatives for clients. It is surprising the IMF has not modernised the SDR, which new technology would enable. The Wocu does just that".

How does the Wocu differ from the IMF's SDR? The SDR, while a valuable tool, is based on 4 currencies and re-weighted only every 5 years, unlike the Wocu which is re-weighted by an independent institute every six months (when the IMF releases its GDP figures).

Michael King, WDX managing director, said: "Market participants and academics are telling us that the Wocu will be well-received. We are offering organisations, governments, and, through them, individuals, a new instrument of great elegance and power. Its use will herald less risk, less volatility and more certainty. Some even see it as the answer to the reserve currency issue. I am delighted that the Wocu, the result of much academic research and technical development, is now a reality."

Flight comments: "Corporate Treasurers and ACT members really like the Wocu concept as it reduces volatility and exchange rate risk and the concept of the Wocu is happily straightforward."

He Doth Protest Too Much

Van Jones, the Green Czar, submitted his resignation late last night.

In his letter, Jones is quick to say opponents of reform are using lies and deception against him. Why did he feel the need to insert that paragraph in the letter? Isn't that being just a tad bit argumentative?

All the documented evidence shows clearly the leanings and take home message of Mr. Jones in his past. Perhaps, he should have just said, "I resign my post." By adding the next argumentative sentence, he becomes the man who doth protest too much.

Whose past will surface to haunt the White House now? Just wondering.

The Web Justs Keep Getting More Tangled for White House

What a week for the White House. The webs they keep weaving up there are just getting more and more tangled.

First, the cry from Americans over the White House plan for Tuesday's little chat with the children has forced the changing of the words. Now, they keep trying to say they just weren't accurate in their words. No kidding. There's a big difference from letter to president on how children can help him to stating their educational goals. I just wonder what kind of letter a first grader would write?

And now, the green czar of deception. Oops. The documentation has been found showing he was on the organizing committee for the Truthers in 2002. Another chance for the White House to try and spin this one away.

Yep, the web of deception becomes more and more tangled. That's ok. It's looks like the web's strings just weren't strong enough and now they are unraveling. Bet there's more to come.

Busted. Van Jones Linked to 9-11 Truther Movement Back in **January 2002**

Yesterday, news broke out that Barack Obama's communist Green Czar was a 9-11 Truther. The administration much later in the day released a statement saying Van Jones was "not now or ever" involved in the 9-11 Truther movement.

Jones said the petition he signed in 2004 did not reflect his views and that he did not carefully review the language in the petition before agreeing to add his name..

Pledging to Serve the Master

I've been seeing red for a few hours now. The news stories out about the speech the president intends to give to students on Tuesday have coupled my thoughts with the "I pledge my service to the president" video. So I've had to ponder what I was going to say.

You know, my family has longed served America, whether it be elected officials at the local and state levels up to the White House. Some, like my dad and grandfather, served America by protecting her in times of war. But, the theme has been consistent. Serve America. Protect America. Protect the Constitution.

Now, I haven't served America in those first couple of ways just mentioned. Instead, one of the ways I serve my country is to teach others about some of the history of our country. Yep, I'm an invited speaker in my local schools to talk about the history of the Constitution. In these talks, I try to bring the Constitution to mean more than just a piece of paper to these kids. I hope I've been successful with some of them.

That brings me to the upcoming talk and the information provided by the people in charge of this talk next week. The kids are supposed to be encouraged to stay in school. Ok, I'll buy that. But it doesn't take 20 minutes to do that, nor has any president had that kind of influence on my educational choices in my lifetime. But, let's not dwell on that.

Keep reading and you see the kids are to be encouraged to read books about the presidents and Obama. You can correct me if I'm wrong, but historical books about presidents typically happen after their time in office is over. So, I'm a little concerned about these books about the current president that children are supposed to read.

The next course is a suggested plan for teachers to have children write letters about they can help the president. Help the president do what?

Top that with the video just shown in a Utah school in which the kids are to pledge their service to their president, and well, my senses are on overdrive. Pledge service to their president? Pledge service to a public servant who, by definition, is to serve our country and her people?

Ok. I'll write a letter on how I can be of help to the president. It will even cover the second letter of how he inspires me. Here it is:

I can be of help to the president by getting on my knees daily and praying that he will seek God's guidance.

You see, it's really quite simple. I already serve a Master. I already serve the One who sent His son to die for me. So, oops, can't take that pledge to serve a man.

Oh- and there are some great books about the One I serve. Just in case you're in need.

Teaching about Holocaust Should be a War Crime?

What is with these people? The Holocaust did happen in World War II. It was celebrated by Nazi Germany. End of discussion.

There is just no way anyone could justify teaching history could ever be considered a war crime. But a Hamas spiritual leader seems to think it should. Why? Because it makes him uncomfortable? Or is there a more sinister agenda at hand?

Arrghhh.

White House Wants Your Video on Health Reform

Just thought you'd want to know the White House is asking for your videos on why health care reform is important. So, perhaps we should all make videos showing why the current health care reform bill is so wrong for America and what could be done for effective health care reform? Start with tort reform?

Oh yes, and once again, this is a spam email from the White House. This time, it's from the Office of Health Reform. Gee, I didn't know that was an official office.

Here is a portion of the email (the myth is no health care reform needed):

You can help the Vice President debunk this myth by uploading your own video on why reform matters to you. This is an opportunity for Americans of all backgrounds and situations to make the case for reform in your own words.

And they've come up with a quiz to help you. Uh, huh.

You Gotta Dance With Who Brung You

There's been a bunch of chatter regarding the presidential advisors and their roles of whispering in the ear of our president. More evidence is being found and released which suggests some of these advisors, who are also called czars, have some deep seated anti-American beliefs. Does anyone know how much influence they hold? Thought you'd be interested in seeing this latest story out this morning.

Obama Adviser on 9/11: Blame 'U.S. Imperialism,' Reports Aaron Klein

/PRNewswire -- One day after the 9/11 attacks, President Obama's "green jobs czar" led a vigil that expressed solidarity with Arab and Muslim Americans as well as what he called the victims of "U.S. imperialism" around the world, reports Aaron Klein of WorldNetDaily.

Klein previously reported Van Jones, special adviser for green jobs, enterprise and innovation to the White House Council on Environmental Quality, is an admitted black nationalist and radical communist.

Jones was the leader and founder of a radical group, the communist revolutionary organization Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement, or STORM. That group, together with Jones' Elle Baker Center for Human Rights, led a vigil Sept. 12, 2001, at Snow Park in Oakland, Calif.

STORM's official manifesto, titled, "Reclaiming Revolution" has surfaced on the Internet.

A review of the 97-page treatise found a description of a vigil that Jones' group held Sept. 12, 2001, at Snow Park in Oakland, Calif. The event drew hundreds and articulated an "anti-imperialist" line, according to STORM's own description.

The radical group's manual boasted the 9/11 vigil was held to express solidarity with Arab and Muslim Americans and to mourn the civilians killed in the terrorist attacks "as well as the victims of U.S. imperialism around the world"

"We honored those who lost their lives in the attack and those who would surely lose their lives in subsequent U.S. attacks overseas" STORM's manifesto recalls.

Also, Klein obtained a press release of Jones' vigil, dated Sept. 11, 2001, and titled, "People Of Color Groups Gather to Stand In Solidarity With Arab Americans and to Mourn the East Coast Dead."

White House to Fly Chinese Flag During America's Constitution Week?

VWV Note: I'm stunned. I guess this is a feel good moment for...??? But, it's not such a feel good moment for me. This proposed date of September 20 is smack dab in the middle of our, yes-America's, Constitution Week. Fly a flag, alright. Make it American.

Are These the Questions Congress Wants You to Answer?

So, Specter wants a Congressional hearing over the VA Book that was reinstated by the Obama Administration? Will he and his Democratic colleagues be ready to testify that this is part of the "end of life" counseling they currently have in their health care bill?

I was ready to stroll outside and shoot myself to put me out of my misery after I read the book--- and I'm not sick or disabled or depressed. What would someone who is in pain do after reading the book?

Limbaugh Takes on White House for VA 'Death Book'
by Connie Hair
08/24/2009

On Friday, radio talk show king Rush Limbaugh was on fire over the content of the Veterans’ Administration "Death Book" (pdf), the “end of life counseling” the VA now inflicts on our veterans.

RUSH: “Page 21 from the Death Book, from the VA, reinstated by Obama. ‘What makes your life worth living? Instructions: This exercise will help you think about and express what really matters to you. For each row, check one answer to express how you would feel if this factor by itself described you,’ and there are, you know, A through S here. Here's A. ‘I can no longer walk but get around in a wheelchair.’ Life like this would be: ‘difficult, but acceptable; worth living, but just barely; not worth living; can’t answer now,’ and the people reading the book are supposed to check off which of these things apply. Saving Health Care Money without Passing a Bill?

If the Obama administration's plan is to pay for universal health coverage by identifying and taking out wasteful spending in health care , and if they have already identified them, then why do we need a bill passed which would spend a whole lot more money? Can't the current government minions slam the door shut on wasteful spending now? And if not, why?

Just wondering.

Education is the Key- So Why Don't We Try It?

Having a solid education is the key for opening doors and opportunities. On this one issue, it would appear the president and I agree strongly.

With that said, I was shocked this morning to read an article about the lack of education in our colleges and universities. The report released indicates a serious lack of teaching students about American government or American history. Actually, it said that of the 100 leading colleges and universities, only 11% require these courses. Only 53% require mathematics.

How can that be? Is it more important to learn to be a free thinker or to be a free thinker with knowledge in your head?

Maybe I'll start a survey. Now seems just like the perfect time as I reflect on a couple of upcoming American history events.

Quick. Tell me.

What was the Treaty of Paris? Is any part of it still in use today?
When was the United States Constitution framed?

Do you know the answers? I do.

Are You Listening? Support of Health Care Reform Bill Down- Again

VWV Note: All recent and new polls continue to show Americans do not want the current health care reform bill passed. Will Congress listen to those who elected them? The recent interest in town hall meetings and record numbers of Americans showing up in vain to try and get their questions answered demonstrates the passion of both sides of the debate. Some Congressmen won't even have public forums on the subject. The big question is "Of whom are they afraid?"

Why does the White House think they have to continue to sell the bill with more campaign-like strategies? If the health care bill is good, it will stand on its own two feet.

If not, revisit the drawing board and devise a health care reform bill that doesn't make the majority of Americans "sick" when they read it.

Support for Dems’ Government Takeover of Health Care Continues to Plummet

The more the American people learn about the Democrats’ proposed government takeover of health care that will increase costs, destroy jobs, and put bureaucrats in charge of medical decisions instead of patients and doctors, the more they oppose it. No fewer than five polls released at the end of July showed increasing concern, if not outright, opposition to the Democrats’ government-run health care plan. A Quinnipiac University Poll last week also indicates that a majority disapprove (52) of the President’s handling of health care, while only 39 approve - a 10 percentage point jump in the last month alone.

Today, a new Rasmussen poll shows Americans’ opposition to the Dems’ government-run health care plan is still increasing:

“Public support for the health care reform plan proposed by President Obama and congressional Democrats has fallen to a new low as just 42% of U.S. voters now favor the plan. That’s down five points from two weeks ago and down eight points from six weeks ago.”

“A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that opposition to the plan has increased to 53%, up nine points since late June.”

“More significantly, 44% of voters strongly oppose the health care reform effort versus 26% who strongly favor it. Intensity has been stronger among opponents of the plan since the debate began.”

The American people support real health care reform – a plan that reduces costs and expands access to quality care. The Democrats’ proposal does neither, and that’s why they are seeing the mounting opposition firsthand back in their congressional districts. House Republicans have offered a better solution that addresses Americans’ concerns about out-of-control health care costs. The House GOP plan would make quality health care coverage more affordable and accessible for every American, regardless of pre-existing health conditions. For example, the plan:

•Lets small businesses band together through associations and purchase health insurance for workers at a lower cost just like large corporations and unions do.

•Offers incentives to help Americans who do not have access to quality health care get the coverage they can afford.

•Make coverage more affordable for everyone by giving states new tools to design innovative health care programs.

•Reduce health care costs by reforming medical liability rules that cost families millions each year – millions that line the pockets of trial lawyers at the expense of patients and doctors.

•Reforms regulations so insurance companies compete for your business and you can shop around for the best coverage and price.

•Roots out health care waste, fraud, and abuse that cost taxpayers billions.

Isn’t it time for Democrats to scrap their costly plan and work with Republicans on a proposal that will make health care more affordable and accessible for the American people?

Who is Showing and Who is Telling?

There has been a flutter of new activity regarding the ongoing saga of where Obama was born. Was he a natural born American citizen at birth?

In the event you've missed some of these stories in the last day or so, I thought I'd give you the links so you can read about it.

Is this birth certificate the best candidate to be authentic?

If it is authentic, what happens next? I just don't see Obama stepping down, and I don't see Congress removing him from power.

Is this really smoking gun of Obama's Kenyan birth?

The son replied, "I do know!"

Mandatory Abortion, Sir Czar?

VWV Note: Fox News has released a story in which the newly created Science Czar guru wrote a science textbook in 1977 promoting mandatory abortion. Gee, maybe in addition to the "counseling" for end of life alternatives, newly pregnant women will be turned in so they, too, can get their end of life counseling for their child. Far fetched? President Obama's "science czar," Paul Holdren, once floated the idea of forced abortions, "compulsory sterilization," and the creation of a "Planetary Regime" that would oversee human population levels and control all natural resources as a means of protecting the planet....http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/07/21/obamas-science-czar-considered-forced-abortions-sterilization-population-growth/

You Go First, I Dare Ya

VWV Note: It's getting interesting to see how Americans, no matter what their party affiliation, are speaking out to the elected officials that are supposed to represent them. Perhaps, the players in Washington are beginning to realize that maybe, just maybe, their hometowns don't want to be taxed to death for alleged global warming and they don't want rationed health care decided by the government? And now some House members think the Senate should go first in the vote? Afraid, are they? But of whom?

I'm still trying to determine how the counseling for the end of life alternatives will go if the health care reform bill is passed as is. Not only will I lose my private healthcare insurance, but will I be "counseled" just to go on in the backyard and shoot myself? Will they have someone waiting to do it for me? Or will euthanasia be mentioned? And speaking of global warming, it's been so nice for so much of the country to be so cool this summer. Hmmm, maybe the masses of scientists who say the earth is in a normal cycle of heating and cooling will be heard? Has anyone told the sun it needs to increase its sun spots so more heat is generated? Perhaps, perhaps.......

Dems Continue to Face Backlash on National Energy Tax, Fear the Same Repercussions on Health Care

House Democrats continue to face blistering attacks back home for voting to support Speaker Pelosi’s national energy tax that will punish their constituents by increasing electricity bills, raising gasoline prices, and shipping more American jobs overseas to places like China and India. And now, as Roll Call notes this morning, they fear a similar backlash on health care:

“[Rep. Mike] Ross [D-AR] said the talks focused on outstanding policy differences, but House leaders and negotiators are also weighing political considerations as they eye the slow pace of action in the Senate.”

“Vulnerable House Democrats want the Senate to go first so they can avoid a repeat of the bruising they suffered over the July Fourth recess after edging a controversial climate change package over the line.”

House Democrats are right to be worried. The Senate has already signaled that it will not act on Speaker Pelosi’s national energy tax anytime soon, if ever. Many House Democrats were famously “BTU’d” by former Vice President Al Gore and House Democratic leaders when they were forced to vote for a massively unpopular energy tax that the Senate completely ignored 16 years ago. Here’s just a few recent examples of the heat Democrats are facing back home:

- Rep. Zack Space (D-OH): “The General Manager of Rosebud Mining, Mike Jamison, told NEWS9, ‘I am very angry because the people I live and work with and my community, I think, are at risk because of that legislation. ….Jamison said he has reached out to lawmakers including Rep. Zack Space. ‘His district has 14 coal bearing counties. He has thousands of constituents that make their living from coal and he has turned his back on them when he voted for Cap and Trade.’” – (“Coal Industry Could Suffer With Cap And Trade Bill,” WTOV-TV 9, Steubenville/Wheeling)

- Rep. John Boccieri (D-OH): “‘He’s not really representing me anymore,’ Charles Stockdale, 18, of Bethlehem Township, told Trevena. ‘I don’t feel John Boccieri is listening to us,’ said Jim Stanley, 62, of Jackson Township. ‘He’s listening to (U.S. House Speaker) Nancy Pelosi and the power brokers in Washington.’ Stanley referred to Boccieri’s June 26 vote for the climate and energy bill or cap-and-trade bill, which would set limits on plants on carbon dioxide emissions that are blamed for global warming.” – (“At least 140 People Protest Congressman’s Vote Outside Boccieri’s Office,” Canton Repository)

Now, the President and Democratic leaders are stepping up pressure on rank-and-file Democrats to support a costly government takeover of health care financed by a small business tax. With memories of the national energy tax backlash fresh in their minds, many Democrats are bracing for the same type of backlash on health care:

- Rep. John Adler (D-NJ): “When I spoke to Adler before the hearing, I assumed that as a Democrat he had been spared the wrath of the right wing for his positive vote on cap-and-trade. That was not the case. He told me that on a visit to Ocean County a few days prior he had been nearly attacked by a cluster of concerned citizens. One lady actually gave him a shove, he said... But the reaction from the Toms River crowd, I suspect, will make him think twice about voting the same way on health care as he did on cap-and-trade.” – (Paul Mulshine, “Health care reform: Taking a Shot at Controlling Costs,” The Star-Ledger)

- Rep. Dan Maffei (R-D-NY): “Hecklers, opposed to expanding taxpayer-funded health programs, repeatedly drowned out a panel of New York health care experts whom Maffei asked to discuss how America should provide insurance to 47 million uninsured people and cut the cost of health care.” – (“Central New York Crowd Fired Up Over Health Care,” Syracuse Post-Standard)

With Americans still outraged by rank-and-file Democrats supporting Speaker Pelosi’s national energy tax, the furor may grow even more intense if Democrats walk the plank again to vote for a government takeover of health care that is bankrolled by a small business tax, would force millions off of their current plans, and would put bureaucrats – not doctors and patients – in charge of personal medical decisions. Are Democrats ready to face the wrath of their constituents again? Or will they join Republicans in seeking better solutions to expand Americans’ access to affordable health care?

Will They Choose the Honorable Way or Continue to Try and Sweep this Under the Rug?

It is indeed unfortunate that Fayette County continues to find itself portrayed in a not so positive way with respect to an elected official. The question now before the Commissioners is will they take the honorable position or not? The voting public is waiting to see the followup.

The Commissioners did have something to say at the recent meeting. One commissioner has publicly asked for the resignation of the commissioner whose recent arrest has led to Fayette County being mentioned in national news. The others seem to think they have no power in this case. Yet, the voting public is waiting for action.

Oh Precious Child

I admit it. In a moment of weakness, I agreed to take a carload of girls up to the American Girl Store. There's just no way I was going to disappoint the cutest little face in the world as she celebrates her first double digit birthday.

We were late leaving so I knew there would be traffic in Atlanta. Stop laughing-- I know, there is always traffic in Atlanta. I got on the interstate and prayed for a safe trip for us all and asked the good Lord to oversee the precious cargo in the car.

Wham. Shouting in such a kind, loving voice, I heard,"You, too, are precious cargo, my child." What an overwhelming sense of peace and love I felt in the marrow of my bones in that moment.

Thank you, my Lord, for reminding me that I, too, am loved and am a precious child in your love.

Biden Admits Stimulus Not Working and Americans are being Scammed

So the biggest rush in history to spend the most money in history to create jobs is not working. Joe Biden admitted On ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos over the weekend that people are being scammed with the stimulus.

Does this mean he thinks Democrats are scamming Americans?

Where are the jobs? Shouldn't everyone be asking that question to Congress and to the president? Shouldn't the stimulus package be scrapped now? Shouldn't Congress and the president be willing to listen to alternate points of view since theirs are falling miserably short?

Physicians Oppose Government-Run Health Care

VWV Note: I've been wondering why the physicians haven't been more vocal about this before now. Glad to see this group is starting to get involved.

American Society of Medical Doctors Established to Protect the Bond Between Physicians and Patients; Organizing Doctors to Oppose Government-Run Health Care

/PRNewswire/ -- A new organization, the American Society of Medical Doctors (ASMD), has been created to give physicians a unified voice on issues that affect their relationship with patients. The first issue the ASMD intends to tackle is health care reform; the organization will fight proposals for a government-run health care plan that will directly threaten the doctor-patient relationship.

"If these proposals are enacted, the American health care system could be opened up even more to bureaucrats making critical health care decisions instead of physicians with patients and their families. Treatments, procedures, and prescriptions could be mandated not just by middle managers at insurance companies focused only on a balance sheet, but by government bureaucrats at government-run insurance providers focused only on a balance sheet determined by Congress -- few of whom have ever practiced medicine," said Alfred Bonati, M.D., Chairman of the ASMD and Founder of the Bonati Institute.

Insurers, pharmaceutical companies and others are threatened by government-run health care reform proposals, too, and many of them are lobbying against it in the halls of Congress. While their effort is important, it may not be enough to stop the advancement of such plans. Other more general groups are working on this issue as well, but too often they address the issue in political terms; conservatives versus liberals or the right versus the left. Although this issue will be decided by politicians, the ASMD believes this is not a political issue -- it is a medical issue.

"The American Society of Medical Doctors is taking an entirely new approach to advocacy on behalf of our profession. No longer will we stand by while others speak on our behalf. No more will we expect others to defend us from interests that seek to come between us and our patients. Now we will stand up and speak for ourselves. Now we will defend ourselves and our patients. Now we will determine our futures," said Alfred Bonati, M.D.

Black Activists Praise Supreme Court's Affirmative Action Decision; Justices' Ruling Throws Sotomayor Nomination into Serious Question

/PRNewswire/ -- With the U.S. Supreme Court dealing a stinging blow to race-based employment practices, members of the Project 21 black leadership network are praising the Ricci v. DeStefano decision as a step toward removing the racial trappings of a by-gone era and putting all Americans on equal footing.

"It was clear to this Court that barring people from promotion because of the color of their skin is wrong. The only downside is that four justices still cling to an outmoded and discriminatory line of thought," said Project 21 chairman Mychal Massie. "True equality allows people to rise and fall on their merits. That's what this decision protects. How can one oppose such fairness?"

In a 5-4 decision, the Court reversed the lower court ruling, barring the use of race as the sole factor in promotions. In his majority opinion, Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote, "Fear of litigation alone cannot justify the City's reliance on race to the detriment of individuals who passed the examinations and qualified for promotions."

The decision also casts serious doubt on the Supreme Court nomination of Sonia Sotomayor. She was a member of the appeals court panel that issued the one-paragraph opinion overturned today. Now, she must explain to senators how she could be so much at odds with her potential future colleagues.

"Justice is supposed to be blind, but the opinion she joined in the Ricci case - now overturned by the Supreme Court - shows Sonia Sotomayor believes justice should be based on ethnicity," added Project 21's Massie. "Her ruling in Ricci is an unambiguous example of her placing her feelings and personal prejudices above what the law dictates or allows."

Groups to Congress: Don't Sacrifice Patient Safety to Lower Health Costs

/PRNewswire/ -- Congress should not confuse lowering health care costs with limiting patient safety, said a letter from consumer and patient advocates sent to Congress today. The groups urged a focus on reducing medical errors in health reform legislation, not limits on liability for negligent medical providers, as a means to both save lives and lower the costs of medical mistakes.

State malpractice damage caps, and other limits on liability for negligent health care providers, have locked injured patients out of court, degraded the quality of health care and denied justice to too many families, said Consumer Watchdog.

"Those who wish to reduce the costs of medical malpractice liability should focus on stemming the epidemic of preventable medical errors," wrote the advocates, not "reduce accountability for wrongdoing and weaken patient safety. We urge you to reject any amendments to the legislation that will shift costs from poorly performing medical facilities and providers to struggling families."

"Shielding negligent parties from accountability is no way to cut costs or provide quality care. To the contrary, it is a recipe for increasing the nation's epidemic of preventable errors, at enormous human and financial cost. Instead of limiting liability, the Congress should focus on improving patient safety. This would save not only lives, but also billions of dollars in unnecessary medical cost," wrote the groups.

The state that is cited most frequently by proponents of malpractice liability limits as a success - California - has insurance regulation, not its malpractice damage cap, to thank for holding malpractice insurance rates down for health care providers. In the thirteen years after passage of a damage cap, medical malpractice insurance rates went up 450%. Over the next thirteen years, after Californians approved strong insurance oversight, medical malpractice insurance premiums went down 2%.

What You May Not Know About Speaker Pelosi's National Energy Tax

VWV Note: Got to wonder why last night the President easily told a TN representative who has yet decided on his vote today that the Cap and Trade Bill won't raise utility bills. Who believes that? The Cap and Trade Bill is nothing but a huge national tax. If it passes, we are all in a heap of financial trouble. Stand tall. Let your representatives know your thoughts now.

The following is from John Boehner's site and is worth reading and sending.

Speaker Pelosi’s national energy tax is going to raise electricity prices, increase gasoline prices, and ship American jobs overseas to countries like China and India. This, we know.

It would be a bureaucratic nightmare overseen by a confusing web of government agencies that would take and redistribute trillions of dollars from family budgets and workers payrolls. This, we also know. Even Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin Peterson (D-MN) admitted in the Washington Post this morning that: “The truth is, nobody knows for sure how this is going to work.” How encouraging.

But what don’t we know? Here are some facts you may not know about Speaker Pelosi’s national energy tax:

Homebuyers Beware. Trying to save up for a new home? You may have to save up a little longer for your purchase. The Democrats’ bill would dramatically increase new home costs by mandating California’s expensive new building codes for the entire nation. Immediately upon enactment, the Democrats’ bill would demand a 30 percent increase in energy efficiency for new construction. A couple of years later, the Democrats’ bill would require an additional 50 percent improvement. These numbers were chosen with no concern for cost to consumers or feasibility in implementation.

Homebuilders Beware. The Democrats’ bill imposes new mandatory regulations and civil penalties for homebuilders. If your state refuses to accept the stringent and costly California building codes, the federal government may assess penalties. And don’t get too comfortable with the new mandatory regulations because the Democrats’ bill allows for “consensus-based” codes to supplant those outlined in the bill. So, as soon as you’ve invested your hard-earned money to comply with the bill’s mandates, the rug could get pulled from underneath you. Translation? You’ll pony up more and more money.

Home Sellers Beware. Having a hard time selling your home? Here’s one more hurdle to jump: all homes sales are conditioned upon an energy audit and a new energy rating assessment and energy labeling program for your home that’s outlined in the Democrats’ bill. And if you thought you could improve your property with a fresh coat of paint and some granite counters? Think again! Now your home will be subjected to a new energy rating assessment and energy labeling program that will penalize you for older windows, original fixtures, and dated appliances. So the Democrats’ bill would bring down the value of your home!

New Lights No Matter the Cost. As early as 2012, the Democrats’ bill eliminates all existing lighting technology used in many outdoor lighting fleets (parking lots, stadiums, secured facilities like power plants and factories). Just as an example, switching to the mandated technology in the bill will cost one small utility about $30 million in annual revenue. So you now have to comply with the new mandates for new lighting? Hold the phone. It is not clear that a feasible alternative technology is available for every existing lighting application – regardless of cost – which could force some businesses to close.

The consequences of Speaker Pelosi’s national energy tax for families and small businesses are real. It will drive up energy costs, send millions of jobs to countries like China and India, and place an especially heavy burden on rural America. There is a better way. House Republicans have proposed the American Energy Act, legislation that represents the fastest route to a cleaner environment, lower energy costs, and more American jobs. The legislation would:

Increase environmentally-safe energy production on remote lands and far off our shores;
Promote the use of alternative fuels that will reduce carbon emissions, such as nuclear, clean-coal, and renewable energy technologies; and
Encourage increased efficiencies and cutting edge technologies to maximize America’s energy potential.
Today’s vote on Speaker Pelosi’s ill-advised national energy tax will have consequences for every American. It is a bad deal for America. And the American people will remember how their Members of Congress vote.
