Guess if Reid and company get their Christmas wish for the current health care plan to pass, then the rest of us get... well, we don't get coal. Santa won't be able to afford it.

The Senate Health Bill: Higher Taxes from Harry Reid
In order to pay for a massive health care bill (H.R. 3590), Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) creates a host of new taxes. These taxes will total $370.2 billion in the next ten years, and many of the taxes will start being collected in 2010, even as the economy continues to struggle.
The most shocking tax increase is a payroll tax increase that will permanently sever the link between the Medicare Payroll tax and its contributions to Medicare. This payroll tax increase of .5% on earnings above $200,000 for singles and $250,000 for joint couples will contribute money to the general fund for health care instead of directly for Medicare payments....http://blog.heritage.org/2009/11/19/the-senate-health-bill-higher-taxes-from-harry-reid/

Tax, Mandate, Mandatory Fee- Whatever You Call It, It's a Tax
Yep, it's a tax if the government says you have to pay it or else. Yep, it's a tax if the IRS is the collection body. Yep, it's a tax if it gets paid to a government as a fee. Taxing thoughts today as I look at my property taxes, which apparently are up even though the value of real estate is down. Yep, it's a tax. Guess we have to go back to the definition of "is".

Throughout his presidential campaign, then-candidate Barack Obama promised the American people: “If you’re a family that’s making $250,000 a year or less, you will see no increase in your taxes.” As President, Barack Obama reiterated that pledge, promising the American people in his September 9th health care press conference: “The middle-class will realize greater security, not higher taxes.” But as ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos pointed out to the President this weekend, Obama will break his promise to the American people if he signs a health care bill that includes an individual or employer mandate.

National Sales Tax Adds Value to What?
VWV Note: National Sales Tax just to keep up with Europe? Value Added Tax to fund all the new national programs? What happened to "no new taxes on those who are below the stated $250,000"? Add this to the huge increases of property taxes across the country such as the proposed 50% in Ohio and 42% in Atlanta. Life, as we know it, is sure to change. This time it appears it won't be for the better. Were we the last generation to really enjoy prosperity? Is this the change in America we can hope for? Is this the change you hope to see?

Another State Wants to Raise Taxes- Now it is Virginia
FreedomWorks Calls on Virginia to Cut the Budget, Not Raise Taxes
(BUSINESS WIRE)--When states are faced with a budget deficit, the fiscally prudent solution is to tighten the budget and cut bureaucratic waste before increasing taxes on strapped citizens. Virginia is currently facing a $2 billion budget shortfall, which is due in part to over-spending when times were good. FreedomWorks is disappointed that Gov. Timothy Kaine has proposed a 100 percent increase in the state cigarette tax.
FreedomWorks opposes raising taxes, especially in an economic recession. Cigarette taxes are historically a failed public policy and do not bring in anticipated revenue as smokers either cut back, cross borders, or turn to the black market for their cigarettes.
Cigarette taxes are regressive, disproportionately hurting poor families’ budgets. Small business owners, the backbone of our economy, would also be devastated with a loss of a critical revenue stream.
FreedomWorks issued a call to action today to its members in Virginia, asking them to contact the General Assembly and Governor Kaine. FreedomWorks volunteers will deliver the message that this tax increase should be defeated, and the size of the bloated state budget should be reduced.
FreedomWorks President Matt Kibbe commented:
“It is unfortunate that in tight budget times politicians resort to gimmicks to fill budget holes. These problems are often created by their inability to rein in spending during the good times. The Virginia General Assembly would best serve the citizens by rejecting all tax increases and instead look for ways to shrink government and cut spending to cover the budget deficit. Rejecting tax increases would send a strong message to Governor Kaine that as Virginians prepare to live on a budget, so should the government."
