Are There Tsunamis in the Bible?

/PRNewswire/ -- The recent Japanese earthquake and tsunami and the 2004 Indonesian earthquake and tsunami have shocked the world. Dr. Jeffrey Goodman, an archeologist and geologist who has spent years researching the Bible's stories of catastrophe, says that tsunamis that dwarf those of Japan and Indonesia are written about in the Bible. In his new book "THE COMETS OF GOD" Goodman says the Bible tells of a mega-tsunami that occurred in the past and a mega-tsunami that is to occur in the future.

Goodman points out when key phrases in the Bible's account of "Noah's Flood" are properly translated they tell how a comet impact caused a mega-tsunami, which in turn caused the Flood! Physical evidence comes from the 2006 discovery of the 18-mile wide Burckle impact crater at the bottom of the Indian Ocean. A 2008 History Channel documentary about the Burckle crater concludes, "The cause of the Biblical Great Flood may have been a massive three-mile wide comet that crashed into the Indian Ocean 4,800 years ago." Goodman says an impact this large would have caused an earthquake tens of thousands of times more powerful than the Japanese earthquake with tsunami waves about 1000 times higher. Towering tsunamis would have gone out in all directions, even north toward the land of Noah and up the Tigris-Euphrates Valley in Iraq, before slamming into the "mountains of Ararat" in Turkey and falling back to flood the land. Physical evidence for this event comes from unique chevron shaped tsunami deposits that have been found far inland in Africa, Australia and India. These deposits contain deep water shells mixed with unique materials from the comet's impact. One deposit is over 600 feet high, covering an area twice the size of Manhattan.

Astonishingly, Goodman says the Bible prophesies about another impact-triggered mega-tsunami. The Second Trumpet of the Bible's Book of Revelation (Rev 8:8-9) tells how "a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood (the word 'blood' is a metaphor for 'death') and the third part of the creatures in the sea ... died, and the third part of the ships were destroyed." This prophecy describes a comet the size of a mountain hitting the ocean. Geoscientists calculate an oceanic impact would heat the sea water to over 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit. The subsequent fireball of steam and ejecta and tsunamis would affect a large area, killing sea life and destroying countless ships.

Goodman is not the only scientist to relate descriptions of events from the Bible to cosmic impacts. A growing number of astronomers and planetary scientists have begun to write about how the catastrophes of "Revelation" accurately describe different types of cosmic impact.

Uncle Sam Wants to Know: Got Your National ID Ready?

Ready to go on a trip? How about applying for a job? How about a trip to a National Park?

I thought the National ID card was, ummm, history. Apparently not. It would appear that on May 11 of this year, (yes, 2011), all driver's licenses must adhere to national standards. It also appears these new national standards could really impact some of our freedoms as well.

Some of the regulations for the Real ID which will become active are really not new. What is new is the idea that state issued ID cards will no longer be accepted by federal government operations- like entering a federal building or flying on an airplane. What is new is a government database.

Originally, these new standards were to be in place by 2008, but due to states' lack of support and the public outrage at the time, the date was moved to 2011. Many states have passed legislation opposing the Real ID since 2005.

Well, 2011 is here. Where is the press on this issue? I haven't seen any uproar on this topic.

Gee, wonder if this little gem is still in the government budget this year? Somebody has to pay for this. Oh, that's right. You and me.

Taxing Fido and Kitty in Georgia Not Such a Good Idea

There's a lot of buzz in the world of our beloved pets as Georgia lawmakers discuss taxing pet owners if the pets are seen by veterinarians. Medical products such as prescriptions for veterinary products are already taxed.

Georgia House Bill 385 Section 3-3 would add a tax for not only the services veterinarians provide like examinations, but also includes taxes on the labor costs of hair cuts, shoe repair, lawn care, home repair and other professional services. Does it really make sense to pay a tax on renting a safety deposit box or a service contract for household appliances?

Many veterinarians believe that taxing their services will not dramatically add to the bottom line for state revenues. Instead, it has the potential of reducing pet care. Many families are struggling to survive, and adding the projected 7-9% on to the costs of services could have a negative impact on not only veterinarians, but also to small business owners.

In reading the bill in its current state, it is interesting to note veterinarians' services are lumped in to services like watch or auto repair. Should the well being of animals be in this bill?

Included in this bill is the beginning of overhauling the Georgia tax codes by reducing rates for individuals, and raising sales taxes. Read more about it and think how this bill will affect your bottom line.

But I Have a Prescription!

The new year has brought so much to my life already. Even though the winter storm has kept me off the streets and huddling in the house, I have much to be really thankful for. I love the fact that I have food and electricity. Heck, I even have a prescription that I can't use!

The wonderful new rules for the Flexible Health Savings Account has me fuming and the house is staying toasty comfy with just the heat I am generating.

Depending on the FSA has been a wonderful treat for me over the past several years. I can have money taken out of my hard earned paycheck and have it just waiting for me to use on health care.

In November, I was aware the new rules for 2011 would no longer allow the purchase of over the counter medicines with the FSA unless a kind physician wrote a prescription. So, I adjusted the FSA and have had to guess just how sick the family will get this year. I sure hope the crystal ball I used was still in warrenty!

Off to the doctor we go after January 1st and, oops, he recommended an over the counter medicine to help with a minor issue. He wrote the prescription as he also is aware of the new law and he knows I have a FSA account.

Happily, with my prescription for an over the counter medicine in hand, I skip off to the pharmacy. Proudly, I hand in the prescription to the pharmacist along with the prescribed over the counter medicine.

"Uh, what do you want me to do with this?"

"Well," I smiled, "my FSA says I have to follow the new rules for 2011 and have a prescription for the over the counter medicine. Here it is."

"I can't do anything with the prescription. It's over the counter," replied the not-so-smiling pharmacist.

"I know. This documents that I have a doctor's recommendation to use it. So, run it through the FSA wonder machine."

The kind pharmicist scratched his head and agreed to do so.

Guess what? The wonder FSA folks won't accept the purchase because it is OVER THE COUNTER.

But, I have a prescription.

Wonder how long it will be before someone who can make decisions about the rules will figure out there's a slight problem with the system? Will it be when they try to buy the over the counter aspirin to counter the pounding headache they get from all the irate prescription holding common folk?

It kind of feels like getting all dressed up with no place to go. Hmm, just like this week with the major winter storm. But, lucky me, I have a prescription.

The Wikileaks release of classified diplomatic cables may have the same influence that the Pentagon Papers did four decades ago, said a panel of Duke faculty Tuesday.

"There is an arc between the Pentagon Papers and Wikileaks, each beginning a new age of information," said Philip Bennett, professor of journalism and public policy and former managing editor of The Washington Post. "The release of the Pentagon Papers led to a new period in the relationship of the government and the press. WikiLeaks may do the same."

Four Duke professors spoke at the Sanford School of Public Policy Tuesday amid the breaking news of the arrest of WikiLeaks editor-in-chief Julian Assange on charges of sexual assault. The panel attracted a crowd of students, faculty and community members that filled a classroom and an adjacent overflow room.

Panelists included Bennett, Peter Feaver, professor of political science and public policy and member of the National Security Council during the Bush administration, and Ambassador Patrick Duddy, Latin American specialist with the State Department and U.S. Diplomat in Residence at Duke. Vice Provost of International Affairs Gilbert Merkx served as moderator.

On Nov. 28, WikiLeaks posted 220 documents on its website, the first of a cache of more than 250,000 documents of confidential American diplomatic cables. More cables had been made available to mainstream news outlets, including The New York Times and The Guardian.

Publication of leaked classified material is not new, the panelists said. For example, journalist Bob Woodward ferrets out White House secrets and gets a book contract, with no aggressive investigation into those leaks, even though some of the information revealed in his book might be of a higher classification than the diplomatic cables.

However, WikiLeaks presents a new way for secrets to enter the public domain, Bennett said. It has an anonymous online drop-box, which can serve to shield the leaker's identity. In the past, a leaker's identity was at least known to the reporter to whom he divulged classified information. WikiLeaks has suffered from denial of service attacks and the arrest of its founder.

Bennett believes there are at least two different stories, one of the content released and another about how the leaks are distributed and the response to the methodology. Not all media had initial access to the documents, which influenced how they focused their reporting.

"There are three elements in WikiLeaks not found in the Pentagon Papers," Bennett said. "WikiLeaks are international, decentralized and deinstitutionalized. They are by individual actors that are difficult to control."

Ambassador Duddy's point of view reflected his career in diplomacy.

"Someone with access and authorization to see the materials downloaded them and passed them to an unauthorized person. That is a criminal act." He sees the release as damaging to the practice of diplomacy, which depends on candid reporting from the field. "The cables themselves are contributions to the conversation, not policy, which enrich the thinking of the policy makers."

Duddy's concern is that "publicizing of these private conversations hurts the confidence and safety of those who speak to us. For those for whom speaking to us at all is a risk, to expose them seems profoundly irresponsible." It will make diplomacy harder in the future.

The cables do underscore that the current administration has a robust international diplomacy, and is intending to deal with the difficulties laid at its doorstep. Duddy said that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has reached out to foreign leaders on this matter, although reportedly she was told, "You should hear what we say about you."

"I divide the impact of the WikiLeaks into the good, the bad and the ugly," said Feaver. "It is good for Julian Assange, as it glorifies him and he sees himself as a hero. It is also good for scholars, at least those who don't want to go into government, as they have access to the information 20 years early. It's good for Israel, as if proves what they have been saying, that what Arab leaders say to the West is different from what they say to the street."

Feaver characterized the leaks as bad for diplomacy and also for the Obama administration, because "it happened on his watch." It revealed a lack of "message discipline" between the State Department and the Department of Defense, and the Department of Justice has been slow to respond.

"It's also not so good for the mainstream media," Feaver asserted. "Like Matt Drudge, WikiLeaks can bypass the mainstream media." Bennett disagreed, saying that reporters and experts are needed to interpret the information and put it in context. In additional, traditional media do consult with the White House and consider the risk of damage to national security.

For the ugly, Feaver said further leaks will be hard to prevent because of technology. The system is vulnerable because of changes to prevent stove-piping of information after 9/11. He also saw the action of the U.S. government forbidding employees from going to the WikiLeaks website as part of the ugly. "It's not so good for Assange, with his arrest and attacks on the site by other vigilantes. We're entering an uglier phase of the story," he said.

HEAVEN AND HELL

While walking down the street one day a Corrupt Senator was tragically hit by a car and died.

His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance.

"Welcome to heaven," says St. Peter. "Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, so we're not sure what to do with you."

"No problem, just let me in," says the Senator.

"Well, I'd like to, but I have orders from the higher ups. What we'll do is have you spend one day in hell and one in heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity."

"Really?, I've made up my mind. I want to be in heaven," says the Senator.

"I'm sorry, but we have our rules."

And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell.

The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a clubhouse and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with him.

Everyone is very happy and in evening dress. They run to greet him, shake his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at the expense of the people. They played a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster, caviar and the finest champagne.

Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly guy who is having a good time dancing and telling jokes.

They are all having such a good time that before the Senator realizes it, it is time to go.

Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator rises...

The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens in heaven where St. Peter is waiting for him, "Now it's time to visit heaven."

So, 24 hours passed with the Senator joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns.

"Well, then, you've spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now choose your eternity."

The Senator reflects for a minute, then he answers: "Well, I would never have said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in hell."

So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell..

Now the doors of the elevator open and he's in the middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage. He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags as more trash falls from above.

The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his shoulders.

"I don't understand," stammers the Senator. "Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and clubhouse, and we ate lobster and caviar, drank champagne, and danced and had a great time. Now there's just a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable. What happened?"

The devil smiles at him and says,
"Yesterday we were campaigning, Today, you voted."

While China's enforcement of the policy on one-child-per-family has resulted in baby girls being abandoned, many of these beautiful darlings have been adopted. It's rather amazing to me to count how many families I know that found adoption of baby girls in China so much easier than adopting any child at home. The girls I know are beautiful and have such full happy lives in America.

Will China relax the policy as originally intended? Or will Chinese men have to leave China within the next several years to find a wife? Hmmm, just wondering......

Although most Americans are unaware of the hundreds of millions of deaths and abandonments that have occurred as a result of this policy, one organization is on a mission to both reveal the injustice of this policy and restore value to girls and mothers in China.

All Girls Allowed (AGA) was founded by Chai Ling, two-time Nobel Peace Prize Nominee and former chief student leader in the 1989 Tiananmen Square Democracy Movement. The organization supports baby girls in villages with the greatest gender imbalance (sometimes up to 100 girls born for every 130 boys), and spreads awareness of human rights violations and the issue of gendercide. Visitors to AGA's website can send a baby shower gift to ensure a baby girl has a chance at life, sponsor an orphaned girl's education, sign a pledge to support girls' value, and find resources about the One-Child Policy. From students to celebrities, many have already begun to get involved.

AGA is co-hosting a press conference to discuss this tragic anniversary today on Capitol Hill, featuring Congressman Chris Smith, former political prisoner Harry Wu, AGA founder Chai Ling and Reggie Littlejohn (Women's Rights without Frontiers).

Today in China, an alarming gender imbalance exists. The Chinese government admits an average of 120 boys are born for every 100 girls. The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences reports that in 2020, there will be 40 million more young men than women; by comparison, the U.S. has 40 million young men in total. Not surprisingly, China's crime rates and the prevalence of women and child trafficking have risen dramatically. Many respected economists have begun to voice concern over the volatile state of China's "demographic time bomb", and while the policy was originally set to end on September 25, 2010, it remains in place with very little change.

Over the last several years, I've become more interested in politics. Why? Is it because I have finally grown up and realized the changes that the government, whether local, state or national, have made to my lifestyle? Is it because I have friends who can intelligently discuss their political views? Whatever the reason, I now follow what is happening in the world around me.

I find Supreme Court nominations fascinating. Shouldn't all party interests and agendas be on hold and the search for a true American who lives and dies for the Constitution be the goal?

I think all the latest reports on whether Kagan "is or is not" to be not as important as the bigger issue. Is she or is she not an American who believes in the Constitution? Will she or will she not put all personal thoughts aside and follow the law of the land? You know, the Constitution? The bedrock of our country? The one which spells out the powers of the government and the freedoms of the people? The one where it is a government of the people, by the people and for the people whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed?

In the event you are not real interested in having a federally approved census worker knock on your door and ask questions, be sure to mail in your census by Apr 16.

For the first time, the Census Bureau even sent a duplicate set of forms to some areas. And now a PSA I've seen attempts to place blame (in a round about way) on those who don't send back the census as wasting taxpayer money.

In all the census forms I have filled out over the last years, I just don't remember all the extra hype and tax money being spent to remind residents to mail it in.

I have to ask. Who is paying for this "March to the Mailbox"? Or maybe I already know the answer.

Census Data- Used for What During War Time?

Being a good law abiding citizen, I opened up the second letter today regarding the 2010 census. The first letter was just informing me the census would be taken. Ok. Was this a huge waste of money in a tight (or any) economy?

So, I opened up the census and looked at it. It's the short form, which means they are only asking for your name, rank, age and race. How will this information be used?

According to the insert, the information can not be used by law enforcement or by tax collection folks. Hmmm. Really? It's only to decide how much money your neighborhood gets for children and the elderly? It's only to identify how many Representatives are to be in Congress from your state?

The census bureau has in the past given information found on the census to the federal government for purposes other than law enforcement or tax collection. What? It has been claimed the census bureau gave info on residents to the government during World War I so they could look for draft dodgers. Hmmm. It has been claimed the census bureau gave info on Japanese American citizens for the infamous detention camps on American soil during World War II. Is this true? Did the phone ring over at the big boss's house saying, "Hey, I've got some people you may want to round up?" Did the big boss decide the information was needed to secure America?

I don't know if the claims are accurate or not, but it certainly gives me chills just imaging how the information could be used by those who may be in a position to abuse power given them. After all, we are in a time of war against terrorism. Hmmmm.

Another fun little tidbit I've heard is there is no long form this time around. So, genealogy types who delve into the census years of old will be mightily disappointed come 2082.

Guess I'll get out my blue or black pen so I can fill in the blanks. Just too bad there won't be anyone coming around to fill out all the blanks in previous census years with a completely illegible writing skill or with guesses on how old the residents are since the neighbors were supposed to know!

End of Life Care Rationing?

What do you envision when your time comes to get ready for the exit from the breathing tax paying world to that of the pushing up daisy world? No matter whether you are a firm believer in "quality vs quantity" or in the "I want to go peacefully" mode, you will no doubt find this debate of interest. Why should the government decide who lives and who dies? Why should the government be involved in such a personal private decision?

Does this subject give you chills? It certainly gives them to me as we wait and see if the government is successful in taking over health care by the reform bill on the table.

National Effort to Amend the Constitution Launched

/PRNewswire/ -- A national effort to add ten specific amendments to the Constitution of the United States was launched this week when the nation's 7,300 state legislators received the book "10 Amendments for Freedom" along with information on how to convene a Constitutional Convention.

The effort is being spearheaded by 10 Amendments for Freedom, Inc., a not-for-profit organization, to provide permanent restraints upon the federal government.

"The initial goal is to have the state legislatures vote to have Congress convene a Constitutional Convention to propose ten specific amendments be added to the Constitution," stated William H. Fruth, Founder and National Director. "After the amendments are proposed by the convention, they will need to be ratified by three-fourths of the states."

The proposed Constitutional amendments include the following topics:

1. Require the federal government to have a balanced budget and stop
incurring debt.
2. Repay the national debt over a 50-year period.
3. Force Congress to be more transparent regarding the legislative
process.
4. Enable the president to have "line-item veto" authority.
5. Limit the number of terms a person can serve in Congress.
6. Mandate Congress control illegal immigration.
7. Provide a legal framework to prevent becoming a bilingual nation.
8. Prevent foreign laws and courts from having authority over the American
people.
9. Restrain the growth of the federal government and prevent "socialism."
10. Allow for the presence of "God" in the public domain.

"The Constitutional Convention will be the most important political event held in 200 years," Fruth continued. "It will reaffirm the belief the American people have in individual liberty and freedom and that government is created to serve the people, not control their lives."

In order to amend the Constitution, an amendment must first be formally "proposed." There are two ways to propose an amendment.

Either Congress, by two-thirds of the vote of both the House and the Senate, or the delegates at a Constitutional Convention may propose amendments.

The Constitution has been amended 27 times. Each amendment was proposed by Congress.

"Since most of the amendments place limits on Congress, it is not likely Congress will propose them," Fruth continued. "As a result, a Constitutional Convention called by the states is needed."

Article V. of the Constitution states that upon the "application" of the legislatures of two-thirds of the states, Congress shall convene a Constitutional Convention.

After the convention is convened, the delegates will decide if each of the amendments should be proposed for ratification.

If they are proposed, 38 states must then ratify them in order for an amendment to become part of the Constitution. The convention itself cannot change the Constitution.

Health Care Nullification: Things have just gotten underway

For the past few days, I’ve received loads of emails urging me to get active regarding the healthcare vote – most of which had a subject line similar to: “Last Chance to Stop National Healthcare!”

Well, if you believe the only way to protect your rights is by begging federal politicians to do what you want, then these emails are certainly right. The vote went as expected, and so will the next.

So if you think marching on D.C. or calling your Representatives, or threating to “throw the bums out” in 2010 or 2012 or 20-whatever, is going to further the cause of the Constitution and your liberty – you might as well get your shackles on now. Your last chance has come and gone.

But, those of you who visit this site regularly already know that the Senate’s health care vote is far from the end of things – and you also know that even when it goes into effect (which I assume some version will), it’s still not the end of the road for your freedom.

The real way to resist DC is not by begging politicians and judges in Washington to allow us to exercise our rights…it’s to exercise our rights whether they want to give us “permission” to or not.

Nullification – state-level resistance to unconstitutional federal laws – is the way forward.

When a state ‘nullifies’ a federal law, it is proclaiming that the law in question is void and inoperative, or ‘non-effective,’ within the boundaries of that state; or, in other words, not a law as far as that state is concerned.

It’s peaceful, effective, and has a long history in the American tradition. It’s been invoked in support of free speech, in opposition to war and fugitive slave laws, and more. Read more on this history here.

Regarding nullification and health care, there’s already a growing movement right now. Led by Arizona, voters in a number of states may get a chance to approve State Constitutional Amendments in 2010 that would effectively ban national health care in their states. Our sources here at the Tenth Amendment Center indicate to us that we should expect to see 20-25 states consider such legislation in 2010.

20 States resisting DC can do what calling, marching, yelling, faxing, and emailing has almost never done. Stop the feds dead in their tracks.

For example, 13 states are already defying federal marijuana prohibition, and the federal government is having such a hard time dealing with it that the Obama administration recently announced that they would no longer prioritize enforcement in states that have medical marijuana laws.

Better yet, in the last 2+ years more than 20 states have been able to effectively prevent the Real ID Act of 2005 from being implemented. How did they do that? They passed laws and resolutions refusing to comply with it. And today, it’s effectively null and void without ever being repealed by Congress or challenged in court.

While the Obama administration would like to revive it under a different name, the reality is still there – with massive state-level resistance, the federal government can be pushed back inside its constitutional box. Issue by issue, law by law, the best way to change the federal government is by resisting it on a state level.

That’s nullification at work.

Over the years, wise men and women warned us that the Constitution would never enforce itself. The time is long overdue for people to start recognizing this fact, and bring that enforcement closer to home.

The bottom line? If you want to make real change; if you want to really do something for liberty and for the Constitution…focus on local activism and your state governments.

The Founding Fathers Weren't What They are Cracked Up to Be

There's been a movement out and about. The movement that Hollywood is helping to promote. It's a movement that promotes it was the wealthy slaveholders who wrote the Constitution. Really?

Was history checked before this broad statement was recently uttered? I think not. History shows us that of the 55 delegates who were present at one time or another during the Constitutional Congress that only 14 of these men had slaves. What? Yep, 12 of these brilliant men owned or ran large farms which had slaves. Another one, James Madison, owned slaves. Benjamin Franklin also owned slaves but later freed them.

"Well, they were wealthy," say the members of the movement. Not so fast.

Some of the delegates were well off, even considered wealthy. But remember, these same men were willing to sacrifice both their lives and their fortunes for freedom from the tyranny of the King. These same men were Americans. These same men were patriots who believed in limited government of the people and by the people. Some of these same men were not taught in fancy European schools. They were either self taught or served apprenticeships.

As for their supposed wealth? Eight of these men suffered financial problems after the Constitution was written and ended up either in bankruptcy.

So were these founding fathers who helped to create the world's longest surviving Constitution just a bunch of elitists? I think not. They were the men who worked together during heated debate over a four month period to frame the United States Constitution. Was it perfect? Of course not. After all, we have had over 11000 proposed amendments-- and only 27 of them have passed muster with the American public.

Yep, the founding fathers were leaders of their time. They were so much more than those in the movement want us to believe. Wonder when the folks in the movement are going to give up their lives and fortunes in what they say they believe?

The Senate Health Bill: Higher Taxes from Harry Reid

In order to pay for a massive health care bill (H.R. 3590), Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) creates a host of new taxes. These taxes will total $370.2 billion in the next ten years, and many of the taxes will start being collected in 2010, even as the economy continues to struggle.
The most shocking tax increase is a payroll tax increase that will permanently sever the link between the Medicare Payroll tax and its contributions to Medicare. On Veterans' Day and Memorial Day, these groups raise funds for their charitable activities by selling paper poppies made by disable veterans. A Poppy is a red flower which is worn to show others that you are remembering those who died for their country. The Poppy was chosen because it reminds us of a place called Flanders Field in Belgium where many soldiers from the first World War died in a bloody battle in a field of poppies. The poppies grow there between the crosses that mark their graves.

How to celebrate Veterans' Day:

-Fly an American Flag from your flag pole at your home or business.
-Observe a moment of silence. Concentrate on remembering those who have died defending the cause of freedom.
-Wear a poppy.
-Go to a cemetery and pay respect to a fallen soldier.
-Locate an American Legion near you and listen to the stories of men who have served for our country.
-Write a letter to a soldier who is currently serving our country and give thanks to them.

COMPREHENSIVE LIST OF ALL TAX HIKES IN HOUSE GOVERNMENT HEALTH BILL

Employer Mandate Excise Tax (Page 275): If an employer does not pay 72.5 percent of a single
employee’s health premium (65 percent of a family employee), the employer must pay an excise tax equal to 8 percent of average wages. Small employers (measured by payroll size) have smaller payroll tax rates of 0 percent (<$500,000), 2 percent ($500,000-$585,000), 4 percent ($585,000-$670,000), and 6 percent($670,000-$750,000).

Individual Mandate Surtax (Page 296): If an individual fails to obtain qualifying coverage, he must pay an income surtax equal to the lesser of 2.5 percent of modified adjusted gross income (MAGI) or the average premium. MAGI adds back in the foreign earned income exclusion and municipal bond interest.

Medicine Cabinet Tax (Page 324): Non-prescription medications would no longer be able to be
purchased from health savings accounts (HSAs), flexible spending accounts (FSAs), or health
reimbursement arrangements (HRAs). Insulin excepted.

Cap on FSAs (Page 325): FSAs would face an annual cap of $2500 (currently uncapped).
Increased Additional Tax on Non-Qualified HSA Distributions (Page 326): Non-qualified
distributions from HSAs would face an additional tax of 20 percent (current law is 10 percent). This disadvantages HSAs relative to other tax-free accounts (e.g. IRAs, 401(k)s, 529 plans, etc.)

Denial of Tax Deduction for Employer Health Plans Coordinating with Medicare Part D (Page
327): This would further erode private sector participation in delivery of Medicare services.

Surtax on Individuals and Small Businesses (Page 336): Imposes an income surtax of 5.4 percent on MAGI over $500,000 ($1 million married filing jointly). MAGI adds back in the itemized deduction for margin loan interest. This would raise the top marginal tax rate in 2011 from 39.6 percent under current law to 45 percent—a new effective top rate.

Excise Tax on Medical Devices (Page 339): Imposes a new excise tax on medical device manufacturers equal to 2.5 percent of the wholesale price. It excludes retail sales and unspecified medical devices sold to the general public.

Corporate 1099-MISC Information Reporting (Page 344): Requires that 1099-MISC forms be issued to corporations as well as persons for trade or business payments. Current law limits to just persons for small business compliance complexity reasons. Also expands reporting to exchanges of property.

Delay in Worldwide Allocation of Interest (Page 345): Delays for nine years the worldwide allocation of interest, a corporate tax relief provision from the American Jobs Creation Act

Limitation on Tax Treaty Benefits for Certain Payments (Page 346): Increases taxes on U.S.
employers with overseas operations looking to avoid double taxation of earnings.

Codification of the “Economic Substance Doctrine” (Page 349): Empowers the IRS to disallow a
perfectly legal tax deduction or other tax relief merely because the IRS deems that the motive of the taxpayer was not primarily business-related.

Application of “More Likely Than Not” Rule (Page 357): Publicly-traded partnerships and
corporations with annual gross receipts in excess of $100 million have raised standards on penalties. If there is a tax underpayment by these taxpayers, they must be able to prove that the estimated tax paidwould have more likely than not been sufficient to cover final tax liability.

States rights. What a concept. If I recall, history has shown that disagreements over states rights can lead to unrest. Remember the states rights which were fought over in the War Between the States? History has shown us in Union and Confederate blood that states really don't like being told what and how to do it by those who aren't walking in their proverbial shoes.

National Emergency Defined

It's all over the news. President Barack Obama has now declared a national state of emergency due to the H1N1 flu outbreak. It is being reported it is for the benefit of hospitals as they try to treat the population who needs it. Really?

The very definition of a national emergency allows for the government to suspend citizens' normal lives, and as a result of this, can allow the government to suspend civil liberties. The government has the power under a national emergency to confiscate property, order martial law, control all communication and restrict travel, among other powers.

The question is why is the outbreak of a flu during flu season considered a national emergency. According to the CDC, around 100 children have died in America since the first onset of the H1N1 flu in the spring of 2009 with about half of them dying in September and October. The CDC continues to call the flu a pandemic. The government ordered doses of the H1N1 flu vaccine are slow in being delivered to the states.

So why the National Emergency? What is the real agenda? Just wondering.....

Czar or Master? It's Not the Name that is the Question

I enjoyed the comment by Chris regarding my last post about the power of the czars. Chris is so right when he stated the Keith Feinberg is the Special Master for Executive Compensation and it is his job to keep the bailed out bank executives in line. And Chris is so right when he says I wouldn't want bailout companies to place taxpayer money in the executive pockets. Agreed.

However, the term czar is used by mainstream media in referring to Mr. Feinberg and the presidential advisors. So, yes, they are commonly known as czars. Actually, Mr. Feingberg is quoted in an October 20, 2009 article and refers to himself as "pay czar", although he made it clear he doesn't like the term.

So, my question remains for czars in general. How many of them are supposed to be just advisors? To my knowledge, less than half of the advisors or czars were confirmed by Congress. How much power are they wielding? And why is it that these czars are now in the center of the executive branch and in the news? It seems to me that in the past, when they were talked about in the news, they were described as "presidential advisors" - no matter who the President was at the time.

Is it because I watch the news more now? Or is it because so many of them have pasts that appear, well, appear not so sunny? Just wondering...

According to Section 6002, page 1435, Taxable income will be revised to include employer sponsored coverage. And it takes effect after December 31, 2009.

So, for all of you who really want the health care bill to pass, get ready for the feds to tax you on your current benefits. So nice of you to be so very happy and supportive of higher taxes.

And for those of us who are against mandated health care, get ready to grimace as we have to determine how to make less money go farther everyday.

Yep, it's a nugget. Just kind of depends on which side of the equation you are on as to how to define nugget-- gold or not.

If a robber asks for your wallet and/or purse, DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM.
Toss it away from you. Chances are that he is more interested in your wallet and/or purse than you, and he will go for the wallet/purse.
RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!

3. If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car, kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy.
The driver won't see you, but everybody else will. This has saved lives.

4. Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping, eating, working, etc., and just sit(doing their checkbook, or making a list, etc.) DON'T DO THIS!

The predator will be watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, put a gun to your head, and tell you where to go.

AS SOON AS YOU GET INTO YOUR CAR, LOCK THE DOORS AND LEAVE.

If someone is in the car with a gun to your head DO NOT DRIVE OFF, Repeat: DO NOT DRIVE OFF! Instead gun the engine and speed into anything, wrecking the car. Your Air Bag will save you. If the person is in the back seat they will get the worst of it. As soon as the car crashes bail out and run. It is better than having them find your body in a remote location.

5. A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot, or parking garage:

A.) Be aware: look around you, look into your car, at the passenger side floor, and in the back seat

B.) If you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door.

Most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women are attempting to get into their cars.

C.) Look at the car parked on the driver's side of your vehicle,
and the passenger side... If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back into the mall, or work, and get a guard/policeman to walk you back out. IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead.)

6. ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs. Stairwells are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot. (This is especially true at NIGHT!)

7. If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, ALWAYS RUN! The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times; and even then, it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ. RUN, preferably in a zig -zag pattern!

8. Most women, are sympathetic: STOP! It may get you raped, or killed.

Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good-looking, well educated man, who ALWAYS played on the sympathies of unsuspecting women. He walked with a cane, or a limp, and often asked 'for help' into his vehicle or with his vehicle, which is when he abducted his next victim.

9. Another Safety Point:
Someone just told me that her friend heard a crying baby on her porch the night before last, and she called the police because it was late and she thought it was weird. The police told her 'Whatever you do, DO NOT open the door..' The lady then said that it sounded like the baby had crawled near a window, and she was worried that it would crawl to the street and get run over. The policeman said, 'We already have a unit on the way, whatever you do, DO NOT open the door.' He told her that they think a serial killer has a baby's cry recorded and uses it to coax women out of their homes thinking that someone dropped off a baby. He said they have not verified it, but have had several calls by women saying that they hear baby's cries outside their doors when they're home alone at night.

10. Water scam!
If you wake up in the middle of the night to hear all your taps outside running or what you think is a burst pipe, DO NOT GO OUT TO INVESTIGATE! These people turn on all your outside taps full ball so that you will go out to investigate and then attack.

Stay alert, keep safe, and look out for your neighbors!

This should probably be taken seriously because the Crying Baby Theory was mentioned on America's Most Wanted when they profiled the serial killer in Louisiana.

In his letter, Jones is quick to say opponents of reform are using lies and deception against him. Why did he feel the need to insert that paragraph in the letter? Isn't that being just a tad bit argumentative?

All the documented evidence shows clearly the leanings and take home message of Mr. Jones in his past. Perhaps, he should have just said, "I resign my post." By adding the next argumentative sentence, he becomes the man who doth protest too much.

What a week for the White House. The webs they keep weaving up there are just getting more and more tangled.

First, the cry from Americans over the White House plan for Tuesday's little chat with the children has forced the changing of the words. Now, they keep trying to say they just weren't accurate in their words. No kidding. There's a big difference from letter to president on how children can help him to stating their educational goals. I just wonder what kind of letter a first grader would write?

And now, the green czar of deception. Oops. The documentation has been found showing he was on the organizing committee for the Truthers in 2002. Another chance for the White House to try and spin this one away.

Yep, the web of deception becomes more and more tangled. That's ok. It's looks like the web's strings just weren't strong enough and now they are unraveling. Bet there's more to come.

Pledging to Serve the Master

I've been seeing red for a few hours now. The news stories out about the speech the president intends to give to students on Tuesday have coupled my thoughts with the "I pledge my service to the president" video. So I've had to ponder what I was going to say.

You know, my family has longed served America, whether it be elected officials at the local and state levels up to the White House. Some, like my dad and grandfather, served America by protecting her in times of war. But, the theme has been consistent. Serve America. Protect America. Protect the Constitution.

Now, I haven't served America in those first couple of ways just mentioned. Instead, one of the ways I serve my country is to teach others about some of the history of our country. Yep, I'm an invited speaker in my local schools to talk about the history of the Constitution. In these talks, I try to bring the Constitution to mean more than just a piece of paper to these kids. I hope I've been successful with some of them.

That brings me to the upcoming talk and the information provided by the people in charge of this talk next week. The kids are supposed to be encouraged to stay in school. Ok, I'll buy that. But it doesn't take 20 minutes to do that, nor has any president had that kind of influence on my educational choices in my lifetime. But, let's not dwell on that.

Keep reading and you see the kids are to be encouraged to read books about the presidents and Obama. You can correct me if I'm wrong, but historical books about presidents typically happen after their time in office is over. So, I'm a little concerned about these books about the current president that children are supposed to read.

The next course is a suggested plan for teachers to have children write letters about they can help the president. Help the president do what?

Top that with the video just shown in a Utah school in which the kids are to pledge their service to their president, and well, my senses are on overdrive. Pledge service to their president? Pledge service to a public servant who, by definition, is to serve our country and her people?

Ok. I'll write a letter on how I can be of help to the president. It will even cover the second letter of how he inspires me. Here it is:

I can be of help to the president by getting on my knees daily and praying that he will seek God's guidance.

You see, it's really quite simple. I already serve a Master. I already serve the One who sent His son to die for me. So, oops, can't take that pledge to serve a man.

Oh- and there are some great books about the One I serve. Just in case you're in need.

Obama Adviser on 9/11: Blame 'U.S. Imperialism,' Reports Aaron Klein

Education is the Key- So Why Don't We Try It?

Having a solid education is the key for opening doors and opportunities. On this one issue, it would appear the president and I agree strongly.

With that said, I was shocked this morning to read an article about the lack of education in our colleges and universities. The report released indicates a serious lack of teaching students about American government or American history. Actually, it said that of the 100 leading colleges and universities, only 11% require these courses. Only 53% require mathematics.

How can that be? Is it more important to learn to be a free thinker or to be a free thinker with knowledge in your head?

Maybe I'll start a survey. Now seems just like the perfect time as I reflect on a couple of upcoming American history events.

VWV Note: All recent and new polls continue to show Americans do not want the current health care reform bill passed. Will Congress listen to those who elected them? The recent interest in town hall meetings and record numbers of Americans showing up in vain to try and get their questions answered demonstrates the passion of both sides of the debate. Some Congressmen won't even have public forums on the subject. The big question is "Of whom are they afraid?"

Why does the White House think they have to continue to sell the bill with more campaign-like strategies? If the health care bill is good, it will stand on its own two feet.

If not, revisit the drawing board and devise a health care reform bill that doesn't make the majority of Americans "sick" when they read it.

Support for Dems’ Government Takeover of Health Care Continues to Plummet

The more the American people learn about the Democrats’ proposed government takeover of health care that will increase costs, destroy jobs, and put bureaucrats in charge of medical decisions instead of patients and doctors, the more they oppose it. No fewer than five polls released at the end of July showed increasing concern, if not outright, opposition to the Democrats’ government-run health care plan. A Quinnipiac University Poll last week also indicates that a majority disapprove (52) of the President’s handling of health care, while only 39 approve - a 10 percentage point jump in the last month alone.

Today, a new Rasmussen poll shows Americans’ opposition to the Dems’ government-run health care plan is still increasing:

“Public support for the health care reform plan proposed by President Obama and congressional Democrats has fallen to a new low as just 42% of U.S. voters now favor the plan. That’s down five points from two weeks ago and down eight points from six weeks ago.”

“A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that opposition to the plan has increased to 53%, up nine points since late June.”

“More significantly, 44% of voters strongly oppose the health care reform effort versus 26% who strongly favor it. Intensity has been stronger among opponents of the plan since the debate began.”

The American people support real health care reform – a plan that reduces costs and expands access to quality care. The Democrats’ proposal does neither, and that’s why they are seeing the mounting opposition firsthand back in their congressional districts. House Republicans have offered a better solution that addresses Americans’ concerns about out-of-control health care costs. The House GOP plan would make quality health care coverage more affordable and accessible for every American, regardless of pre-existing health conditions. For example, the plan:

•Lets small businesses band together through associations and purchase health insurance for workers at a lower cost just like large corporations and unions do.

•Offers incentives to help Americans who do not have access to quality health care get the coverage they can afford.

VWV Note: It's getting interesting to see how Americans, no matter what their party affiliation, are speaking out to the elected officials that are supposed to represent them. Perhaps, the players in Washington are beginning to realize that maybe, just maybe, their hometowns don't want to be taxed to death for alleged global warming and they don't want rationed health care decided by the government? And now some House members think the Senate should go first in the vote? Afraid, are they? But of whom?

I'm still trying to determine how the counseling for the end of life alternatives will go if the health care reform bill is passed as is. Not only will I lose my private healthcare insurance, but will I be "counseled" just to go on in the backyard and shoot myself? Will they have someone waiting to do it for me? Or will euthanasia be mentioned? And speaking of global warming, it's been so nice for so much of the country to be so cool this summer. Hmmm, maybe the masses of scientists who say the earth is in a normal cycle of heating and cooling will be heard? Has anyone told the sun it needs to increase its sun spots so more heat is generated? Perhaps, perhaps.......

Dems Continue to Face Backlash on National Energy Tax, Fear the Same Repercussions on Health Care

House Democrats continue to face blistering attacks back home for voting to support Speaker Pelosi’s national energy tax that will punish their constituents by increasing electricity bills, raising gasoline prices, and shipping more American jobs overseas to places like China and India. And now, as Roll Call notes this morning, they fear a similar backlash on health care:

“[Rep. Mike] Ross [D-AR] said the talks focused on outstanding policy differences, but House leaders and negotiators are also weighing political considerations as they eye the slow pace of action in the Senate.”

“Vulnerable House Democrats want the Senate to go first so they can avoid a repeat of the bruising they suffered over the July Fourth recess after edging a controversial climate change package over the line.”

House Democrats are right to be worried. The Senate has already signaled that it will not act on Speaker Pelosi’s national energy tax anytime soon, if ever. Many House Democrats were famously “BTU’d” by former Vice President Al Gore and House Democratic leaders when they were forced to vote for a massively unpopular energy tax that the Senate completely ignored 16 years ago. Here’s just a few recent examples of the heat Democrats are facing back home:

- Rep. Zack Space (D-OH): “The General Manager of Rosebud Mining, Mike Jamison, told NEWS9, ‘I am very angry because the people I live and work with and my community, I think, are at risk because of that legislation. ….Jamison said he has reached out to lawmakers including Rep. Zack Space. ‘His district has 14 coal bearing counties. He has thousands of constituents that make their living from coal and he has turned his back on them when he voted for Cap and Trade.’” – (“Coal Industry Could Suffer With Cap And Trade Bill,” WTOV-TV 9, Steubenville/Wheeling)

- Rep. John Boccieri (D-OH): “‘He’s not really representing me anymore,’ Charles Stockdale, 18, of Bethlehem Township, told Trevena. ‘I don’t feel John Boccieri is listening to us,’ said Jim Stanley, 62, of Jackson Township. ‘He’s listening to (U.S. House Speaker) Nancy Pelosi and the power brokers in Washington.’ Stanley referred to Boccieri’s June 26 vote for the climate and energy bill or cap-and-trade bill, which would set limits on plants on carbon dioxide emissions that are blamed for global warming.” – (“At least 140 People Protest Congressman’s Vote Outside Boccieri’s Office,” Canton Repository)

Now, the President and Democratic leaders are stepping up pressure on rank-and-file Democrats to support a costly government takeover of health care financed by a small business tax. With memories of the national energy tax backlash fresh in their minds, many Democrats are bracing for the same type of backlash on health care:

- Rep. John Adler (D-NJ): “When I spoke to Adler before the hearing, I assumed that as a Democrat he had been spared the wrath of the right wing for his positive vote on cap-and-trade. That was not the case. He told me that on a visit to Ocean County a few days prior he had been nearly attacked by a cluster of concerned citizens. One lady actually gave him a shove, he said... But the reaction from the Toms River crowd, I suspect, will make him think twice about voting the same way on health care as he did on cap-and-trade.” – (Paul Mulshine, “Health care reform: Taking a Shot at Controlling Costs,” The Star-Ledger)

- Rep. Dan Maffei (R-D-NY): “Hecklers, opposed to expanding taxpayer-funded health programs, repeatedly drowned out a panel of New York health care experts whom Maffei asked to discuss how America should provide insurance to 47 million uninsured people and cut the cost of health care.” – (“Central New York Crowd Fired Up Over Health Care,” Syracuse Post-Standard)

With Americans still outraged by rank-and-file Democrats supporting Speaker Pelosi’s national energy tax, the furor may grow even more intense if Democrats walk the plank again to vote for a government takeover of health care that is bankrolled by a small business tax, would force millions off of their current plans, and would put bureaucrats – not doctors and patients – in charge of personal medical decisions. Are Democrats ready to face the wrath of their constituents again? Or will they join Republicans in seeking better solutions to expand Americans’ access to affordable health care?

It is indeed unfortunate that Fayette County continues to find itself portrayed in a not so positive way with respect to an elected official. The question now before the Commissioners is will they take the honorable position or not? The voting public is waiting to see the followup.

The Commissioners did have something to say at the recent meeting. One commissioner has publicly asked for the resignation of the commissioner whose recent arrest has led to Fayette County being mentioned in national news. The others seem to think they have no power in this case. Yet, the voting public is waiting for action.

I admit it. In a moment of weakness, I agreed to take a carload of girls up to the American Girl Store. There's just no way I was going to disappoint the cutest little face in the world as she celebrates her first double digit birthday.

We were late leaving so I knew there would be traffic in Atlanta. Stop laughing-- I know, there is always traffic in Atlanta. I got on the interstate and prayed for a safe trip for us all and asked the good Lord to oversee the precious cargo in the car.

Wham. Shouting in such a kind, loving voice, I heard,"You, too, are precious cargo, my child." What an overwhelming sense of peace and love I felt in the marrow of my bones in that moment.

Thank you, my Lord, for reminding me that I, too, am loved and am a precious child in your love.

The first issue the ASMD intends to tackle is health care reform; the organization will fight proposals for a government-run health care plan that will directly threaten the doctor-patient relationship.

In a 5-4 decision, the Court reversed the lower court ruling, barring the use of race as the sole factor in promotions. The decision also casts serious doubt on the Supreme Court nomination of Sonia Sotomayor. She was a member of the appeals court panel that issued the one-paragraph opinion overturned today. Now, she must explain to senators how she could be so much at odds with her potential future colleagues.

"Justice is supposed to be blind, but the opinion she joined in the Ricci case - now overturned by the Supreme Court - shows Sonia Sotomayor believes justice should be based on ethnicity," added Project 21's Massie. Groups to Congress: Don't Sacrifice Patient Safety to Lower Health Costs

To the contrary, it is a recipe for increasing the nation's epidemic of preventable errors, at enormous human and financial cost. The state that is cited most frequently by proponents of malpractice liability limits as a success - California - has insurance regulation, not its malpractice damage cap, to thank for holding malpractice insurance rates down for health care providers. In the thirteen years after passage of a damage cap, medical malpractice insurance rates went up 450%. Over the next thirteen years, after Californians approved strong insurance oversight, medical malpractice insurance premiums went down 2%.

Speaker Pelosi’s national energy tax is going to raise electricity prices, increase gasoline prices, and ship American jobs overseas to countries like China and India. This, we know.

It would be a bureaucratic nightmare overseen by a confusing web of government agencies that would take and redistribute trillions of dollars from family budgets and workers payrolls. This, we also know. Even Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin Peterson (D-MN) admitted in the Washington Post this morning that: “The truth is, nobody knows for sure how this is going to work.” How encouraging.

But what don’t we know? Here are some facts you may not know about Speaker Pelosi’s national energy tax:

Homebuyers Beware. Trying to save up for a new home? You may have to save up a little longer for your purchase. The Democrats’ bill would dramatically increase new home costs by mandating California’s expensive new building codes for the entire nation. Immediately upon enactment, the Democrats’ bill would demand a 30 percent increase in energy efficiency for new construction. A couple of years later, the Democrats’ bill would require an additional 50 percent improvement. These numbers were chosen with no concern for cost to consumers or feasibility in implementation.

Homebuilders Beware. The Democrats’ bill imposes new mandatory regulations and civil penalties for homebuilders. If your state refuses to accept the stringent and costly California building codes, the federal government may assess penalties. And don’t get too comfortable with the new mandatory regulations because the Democrats’ bill allows for “consensus-based” codes to supplant those outlined in the bill. So, as soon as you’ve invested your hard-earned money to comply with the bill’s mandates, the rug could get pulled from underneath you. Translation? You’ll pony up more and more money.

Home Sellers Beware. Having a hard time selling your home? Here’s one more hurdle to jump: all homes sales are conditioned upon an energy audit and a new energy rating assessment and energy labeling program for your home that’s outlined in the Democrats’ bill. And if you thought you could improve your property with a fresh coat of paint and some granite counters? Think again! Now your home will be subjected to a new energy rating assessment and energy labeling program that will penalize you for older windows, original fixtures, and dated appliances. So the Democrats’ bill would bring down the value of your home!

New Lights No Matter the Cost. As early as 2012, the Democrats’ bill eliminates all existing lighting technology used in many outdoor lighting fleets (parking lots, stadiums, secured facilities like power plants and factories). Just as an example, switching to the mandated technology in the bill will cost one small utility about $30 million in annual revenue. So you now have to comply with the new mandates for new lighting? Hold the phone. It is not clear that a feasible alternative technology is available for every existing lighting application – regardless of cost – which could force some businesses to close.

The consequences of Speaker Pelosi’s national energy tax for families and small businesses are real. It will drive up energy costs, send millions of jobs to countries like China and India, and place an especially heavy burden on rural America. There is a better way. House Republicans have proposed the American Energy Act, legislation that represents the fastest route to a cleaner environment, lower energy costs, and more American jobs. The legislation would:

Increase environmentally-safe energy production on remote lands and far off our shores;
Promote the use of alternative fuels that will reduce carbon emissions, such as nuclear, clean-coal, and renewable energy technologies; and
Encourage increased efficiencies and cutting edge technologies to maximize America’s energy potential.
Today’s vote on Speaker Pelosi’s ill-advised national energy tax will have consequences for every American. It is a bad deal for America. And the American people will remember how their Members of Congress vote.

Have you wondered how so many people still choose to hide their heads in the sand when it comes to what is going on around us?

I've been having a couple of ongoing conversations lately with two colleagues. I won't mention names, but I can guarantee they wouldn't be able to figure out who they are. Why? Because there are so many Americans just like them.

One colleague is distressed over the recession and the way the government is taking over private enterprise. My first question was, "Who did you vote for?" His response was he didn't vote for anyone. My response was, "You voted for the President." By not bothering to take time to learn about the issues and study the candidates, this person abdicated on their responsibility. By not voting, they said that either candidate was fine. By not voting, they gave their thumbs up to the winner. Gee, my colleague is flabbergasted now. Kind of wishes he had voted. Perhaps, he has learned his lesson and will take the next elections more to heart and let his voice be heard.

The other conversation is an ongoing educational one. The lady is such a sweet soul, but she voted for the color of the skin. She openly admits it and says that "He is going to take care of all Americans." She goes on to talk about how wonderful the stimulus is and how great it will be when all Americans get free insurance coverage.

Now she is gainfully employed at a company who has only laid off the temporary workers and reduced hours for some of its hourly employees. She is salaried, so she hasn't been too concerned yet. Imagine her surprise when I asked her who was paying for all the wonderful things the government is doing. She says "the government." "Where does the government get its money?" She honestly thinks that only the rich will pay.

What about the proposed cap and trade tax for every American, rich or poor? What about the proposed Cash for Clunkers so people can take out more debt? (Yep, my cars don't even qualify.)
What about the proposed government rationed healthcare? What about the proposed tax on health insurance the employer provides?

Her eyes get big and she says, "Well, I always get a tax refund." Wake up sister. Just wait till the end of this year and you get the honor of paying back the tax the feds put in your pocket this year since the tax codes have yet to be adjusted. Just wait until your property tax bill comes in.

You've got a job? You're rich. Go on. Rub your eyes and see if some of that sand gets out.
